This is where football politics breaks down. Just because Trump did 1000 bad things doesnt mean some of the things he did were good. Sooner people learn this the better. However there are enough people who want to keep the identity politics going this will be nearly impossible to break the habit.

I think if your point of view is "there should be no kids in cages", it's not so interesting to distinguish between different policies of putting kids in cages, even if they are indeed very different

Well the fact of the matter is still that the Obama administration deported record numbers of people. Biden ran on promises like seen in the tweet above but it's pretty apparent that he'll be happy to actually implement Obama-era policies. And whenever you point that out, Biden supporters will dismiss it in various ways, for example like what you're doing here.

No one is saying Biden's policies are going to look exactly like Trump's. The point is that all Biden did in his campaign was lip service, and he'll be perfectly happy to keep (or implement) shitty policies that will fuck over undocumented people. Yes, I know he's not Trump, and much like any president he will enact his own policies rather than keep those of his precessor. That doesn't exempt him from this criticism.

Biden not only has a responsibility to immediately undo the damage Trump did, but to also undo or at least make up for the damage the Obama administration did. Trump couldn't have gotten as far with many of the things he did on the immigration front without the precedent the Obama administration set. And millions of people and as many families were affected by their deportations.

The President has a high degree of control over immigration policy. This isn't an area where the administration can hide behind Congress and blame them for a lack of action. A humane immigration policy must be immediately implemented.

We're certainly in agreement about pushing the Biden admin to be better on immigration than the Obama admin was. I'm not dismissing that criticism, just annoyed about the argumentation presented above which is inherently misleading.

Obama's policy ultimately ended up being "kids in cages for 24 hours (at most) and then reunited with parents and set free"

That's not really what Trump is doing and it's absurd to say that the two of them had equivalent policies just because there existed at one point a kid in a cage.
