each season took place directly after the previous. So none of this months to years long period of rest for Jack Bauer. By season 8 he will have been awake for over a week straight fighting different terrorist threats, so he'd now be terribly fatigued and also hallucinating. By season 12 we as the viewers are not even sure what's happening anymore. Bauer hallucinations are severe, he has an intense meth addiction he developed over the course of only a couple days (two seasons from our perspective), and he has now become the terrorist.

That sounds like a pretty shitty week.
real talk though, if they had kept it a little more real / authentic, it would have made the show much better. but they started focusing on the cartoon-ish action plots in the later seasons and it really sucked --- "Full story later.
