i have no problem if they want to eat vegan, but i want to eat meat and dont want them ordering from a vegan only restaurant

would it be rude to skip it if they do? i'll just say it's because of covid (we're peaking here)

'Vegan' alternatives are never as 'good' as the real deals. I don't have a problem eating salads, etc., but stuff like plant-based burgers do not takes like burgers. They are 'close' but they are not the same.

Would they let you bring your own food? Just do that.

I myself skipped family birthdays ect for two years, until they noticed it was because of a forced menu. I'm not going to clear my day and be force fed like a convict

Vegan food can be surprisingly good. I would approach it with an open mind and if you don't like it tell them after that you aren't a fan of that kind of food and don't want to have it next time. It's rude to dismiss it before you try it.

If its from a restaurant then it will be good food most likely. If theyre cooking it themselves then bring your own food for backup.

I would say even though vegan food generally tends to suck, it is a little bit rude because of the circumstances of it being for a holiday dinner. BUT I would 100% bring a dish for yourself just to have something you know you'll enjoy.

if they get annoyed at you for bringing a plate of chicken cutlets or something though, I would say you're well within your right to skip out.
