Tom Holland peter Parker is such a selfish zoomer type. It feels especially reinforced in the climax. The climactic battle is just him... under a heavy object that he has to lift. Just to save himself.

True the original trilogy overdid it with needing to rescue Mary Jane and her constant screaming, but homecoming made me realize why a damsel in distress or anyone to rescue is important. It makes the stakes higher and shows the hero's selflessness. The difference between a superhero just saving his own skin and saving someone else is astronomical.

This feels like a review by somebody who fell asleep 15 minutes before the movie ended.

That climax was great. Tom sold it, starting out as a scared kid who thought he was about to die before taking a breath and channeling his strength and remembering that he's fucking Spider-Man.

He literally made the situation worse and iron man ended up having to bail him out/save the day. I think that's another problem with the movie, the establishment of other heroes in that universe provides the same problem that thor 2 and cap 2 and iron man 3 had.

The dude had a building fall on top of him because he was trying to stop a criminal from selling alien weapons to other criminals.

Nah. It doesn't have any meaning behind it. It's just a sexist male power fantasy.

You mess with Spider-Man, you mess with New York!
Shrugs call it what you will, but there's a reason that works so so much better than a guy psyching himself up.

Feels like it really shows how the new generation is so much more individualistic compared to the old days where the scene would have people or close loved ones cheering him on and saying "you can do it Spiderman!" But when he says it himself it comes across as super conceited imo. Just how I interpreted it.

And then selflessly saved Vulture in spite of everything?

Spidey psyching himself up to get out of a literal deathtrap in order to stop a supervillain isn't conceited in any way, shape, or form. And it's a callback to one of the most celebrated Ditko/Lee issues from the 60s.

Disagree

It doesn't always have to be saving a damsel/loved one

This is a different Spider-man, who takes longer to get the hang of things and we are seeing him take time to mature as a hero. It's why he doesn't even have all of his powers yet in the first movie. He's still developing and finding himself

This. Nothing zoomer about that scene as it came straight out of a sixties comic book.
