Mass Effect Andromeda. I already know Inquisition is good, but am I in for a decent time with Andromeda if I keep my expectations in check?

It's an average RPG really. The story isn't as ambitious as it should be and the planet design is uninspired. There's a lot of quests that just exist to waste time. But it's not terrible. It's still more Mass Effect at the end of the day and there's not much else like it this generation.

That's really bout the best I could hope for. I expect a 6 or 7/10 game, though I'd put Inquisition at an 8

It's basically like a less polished sci-fi version of Inquisition really. Both games have way too many filler quests that pad out the run time.

If you can get past that and enjoy the main quest & characters, then both games are alright. Personally, I think both of them suffer from having much better prior games in the series.

Yeah Inq was better than 2 but a step behind 1, and it's hard to see And comparing to the trilogy, but at the same time I haven't played 3 in like 6 or 7 years so maybe I'm far enough removed that I can enjoy it for what it is

The open world stuff in Inq was meh but inoffensive to me. If And shares in that kind of design I'll be fine with it. Honestly it's the story and characters that have me concerned*

*as concerned as I can be bothered to be over a 10 dollar video game

^The story/characters aren't great, but they aren't terrible.

The bigger problem is that the you're sort of forced to do more of the grindy filler quest garbage in Andromeda compared to Inquisition.

Open world stuff is bad if you like a clean quest log. Nothing like accidentally starting a random quest where you then have to find 3 more random locations out of possible list of like 25 sites. And they randomly change if you leave the planted and come back.

Characters are nothing special. Typical personality types you find in most stories. Though I did find doing their loyalty missions fleshed them out into more rounded people. You do have the typical "boring, human soldier" type that was in the previous ME games. Grumpy Krogan squadmate is great though. Let's just say he is dying of old age, so is a wonderful "kids these days" mentality.

Story was interesting premise IMO, about colonizing new worlds. Falls into deus ex machina realm when it comes to making them habitable though. And the recurring evil race is nothing new, and has a very been there, done that quality to them.

That being said, I have played through it twice. Decided to try an insanity run but said fuck that after about 8 hours.

The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.
Everything else, is theory.
