George Stinney. He was accused and convicted of murdering two younger girls. In 2014, seventy years after the fact, it was determined that he had received an unfair trial.

Standing 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighing just over 90 lbs, Stinney was executed on June 16, 1944, at 7:30 p.m. He was prepared for execution by electric chair, using a Bible as a booster seat because Stinney was too small for the chair.[15] He was then restrained by his arms, legs, and body to the chair. The executioner placed the face mask over his face, which did not fit him. When the lethal electricity was applied, the mask covering slipped off, revealing tears streaming down Stinney's face.[15][16] He was buried in an unmarked grave in Crowley.[17]

Even with the evidence at the time there was sufficient proof that at his size he couldn't have committed the crimes he was accused of. But racism and the desire for revenge no matter how misplaced is just... *Sigh* And there's still people who want to commit genocides openly marching these days, there's always a few pictures of one at every Trump event.

And it took Over 70 years to figure out it was an unfair trial

It's so crazy to think stuff like this happening is ancient history, only to find out later on that it happened under 100 years ago. Like this was 12 years before my dad was born. My grandpa was probably not much older than this kid.

I don't want to burst your bubble but technically speaking, the appeals process is basically only for two purposes. One is that the laws broken aren't actually crimes at all (part of how things like sodomy laws got banned)... Or to try and prove that they had received an unfair trial. Most appeals cases are the latter. :( So even if the person in question is entirely innocent, the courts only concern after the initial trial and conviction is that they received a fair trial.

That and the Emmett Till murder should always be taught and reminded.

It angers me so much that bitch lied about Emmett Till harassing her which led to that tragedy which she only admitted once she was basically on her deathbed.

With Stinney, I'm pretty sure they made a movie about it. The actor who plays as Stinney in his last moments sticks in my mind.

Yeah the Emmett Till lady even said she feels bad she had to live with the guilt this whole time. As though that can compare to the young man who didn't get to live at all. :'( And all the horrors his family and the black population in general faced in the aftermath.

I agree, unfortunately cases like this need to be taught not only for educational purposes but also to solemnly silence those who think movements like BLM arose for no reason. Sure these things aren't necessarily happen today, but there are people living today who would prefer things like this were still the norm.

I would also include the two teens that were hanged, I think their names were Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith? The pic is online. It's very disturbing.

Did they at least declare him as officially innocent in 2014?

His conviction was overturned, so yes.
