Current Events > CE. I have a work issue I could use some advice on

OK. I work at a hospital. My department is doing a door contest for different shifts. The best Christmas door wins a prize. The prize is unknown. You can only work on your door during your off time. I was asked by a girl at work, who is heading our shift in this project, if I wanted to work on the door. I respectfully declined after I... interrogated.. her to get all the info I told you above. I dont want to work on a Christmas door during my time off for an unknown prize.

She tried to persuade me but I kept declining. A few days later, which is today, she said she put my name on the list of people working on the door, showed me her plans for the door, asked me to buy a Santa hat and to show up to work early tomorrow to help with the door. Well she didnt flat out tell me to come to work early tomorrow. She said-

Ill also be here early tomorrow to work on the door... we will have other people here too.... if you want to come help.... since your name is on the door... Would be nice..

So.. she pretty much told me to show up. Im trying to find a way out this situation without being an ass and/or hurting her feelings. I dont feel that I have many options. Obviously this will turn into multiple days if I show up tomorrow.

She's the one being an ass. If I say I can't or won't go to a "work" obligation, I don't go. I think you're gonna look like the bad guy to her unless you give in to her manipulation

We are Pharmacy, in a smaller hospital and its not as bad here as it is in other areas. Also, they are trying to limit OT too

Go above her head and explain you explicitly said you didnt want to do it but she volunteered you against your will and request your name be taken off.

I despise being volunteered by others for stuff, even if it's something I love to do; I'll refuse.

To #1, if she did something unethical check around to see if anyone else had their name shadow-signed.

Eh? I mean, the higher ups approved it and its traditional here. I dont want to really bother fighting the idea of Christmas doors. I just dont want to take part if Im not getting paid to be here.

I spoke with her about this recently actually. Its still kinda weird but acceptable. She ended up saying I dont need to come to work early so Ill be.... moral support? Just show to work on time and pop in to see how they are doing. Kinda weird but OK. Im dont get why my name is on it but that is good enough
