so I lost 90 minutes due to this topic. I started reading about the Inuit. There was a big jump in Inuit culture around the time they invented the igloo. Better harpoons, warmer homes, better diet.

My guess is cutting tool leads to better boats and harpoons and to being able to cut snow bricks. Better boats and harpoons enable them to catch whales and whale meat leads to an improved diet.

What I really want to know is what method they used to keep records. In particular records of the weather. At one stage in their history they built elaborate cairns. It took a long while for anyone to notice that Stonehenge pinpointed the solstice. Guessing the cairns had a function.
