I remember thinking, "Oh finally. A way out."

Now a new one is in the works every couple of months, it seems. And they're fighting amongst each other for rights and trademarks so we're sort of slipping back into the same complaint from before.

And you end up buying 3-4 different ones just to watch that one exclusive you like. So it ends up costing more than cable.

With xfinity I was able to bundle internet, cable and also get cell phone service on Verizons network for $45 unlimited data or $5 per gig data.

can Netflix and Disney+ offer that?

Yeah Prime has a few shows and movies that are available but you have to watch ads.

In their defense, the ads are space out and placed well enough that you kind of sit there nodding like, "Yes, I didn't hate that break."

not that weird and totally expected by tons of people for years. p much Netflix was first to market when it was a technology problem. Nowadays the problem is largely solved which lets legacy players like Disney, Comcast, etc in on the market

I can picture a not-so-distant future where most people say fuck it and start mass pirating everything as a form of protest.

It's not weird or even slightly surprising, if you think about it. Netflix got into the market because no one saw how profitable it could be, making all your shows easily available online. Once high speed internet was widespread enough that the barrier of entry was low, the content providers eventually began to see how they could do what Netflix & Hulu were doing, but keep all the money from it, instead of licensing their content to someone else. From there, every company that could, has tried to be their own little content fiefdom. There's really nothing truly to distinguish them from each other, besides what content they have, so you have attempt to bolster their libraries by acquiring other content, such as Disney acquiring Fox & Apple TV buying the rights to the Charlie Brown special. From there, all the content you actually want to watch is divided across multiple services, leaving you essentially paying multiple subscriptions if you want to watch "everything". Really, the only thing I'm surprised about, is that the concept of aggregate services such as VRV haven't caught on, which would have completely brought us full circle to what is essentially cable.

Except you can just cancel most of them for a month and rotate as needed. Any new exclusives will still be there next month. It's stupid af to subscribe to 5+ services at once.

Of course it was easy to predict, but streaming is becoming what customers left cable over. The reason for the switch was because all their favorite things were in a more affordable package in one or two locations. It won't be long before another shift happens, in my opinion.

Since it doesn't look like aggregate services will catch on, the most likely outcome is going the a surge in piracy & whatever the response is to that. Sad truth is that most streaming subscriptions are maintained primarily for only one or maybe two shows; the only people who seriously maintain a CBS All Access subscription being hardcore Star Trek fans, is a shining example.

I really didn't think Disney Plus changed the landscape that much, even though, by default, they did.

But, with HBO Max, yeah, everything has changed.

And all the streaming services have been upping their original content game too.

Wish all these services had custom DVD ordering made on order where you could just order up physical copies of shows you wanted. Because I generally only like a select number of programs on these services. I don't know, paying monthly subscriptions for all these forms of streaming - no good.

HBO Max's streaming layout is dog shit, too. Every time I log in it scrolls me directly to the bottom of the main page and I have to wait for it to stop before I can look for something to watch. Luckily it's free with my AT&T WiFi or I would not be paying for this shit.

Nah, they have no defense. That shit was already $100 a year and then last year they bumped it to $120 all while taking away the 20% off games and acted like their limited video and music streaming made up for a 20% increase in price while having things taken away from the service. Having ads like shitty Hulu is just icing on the cake of how much of a ripoff Prime is at this point. One of the richest people ever is also one of the cheapest and least giving.

Don't get me wrong. Bezos can eat a shit covered lightbulb. I was just saying that the ads they do shoehorn in aren't nearly as annoying or frequent as others.

There just shouldn't be any at all with how much that shitty service is and how little they offer. $120 for frequent shipping delays (even prw covid), limited music streaming selection, and ads on videos is a lot to spend. I guess it's not as much of a ripoff of a basic Hulu membership which has more ads than cable and is like $12.

From what I read, it's free so long as you keep WiFi with AT&T.
