I think they need to clarify what kind of allergic reactions. I have a history of severe allergic reactions to bee stings, but nothing else. Wouldn't be surprised if that also extended to wasps, but I've never been stung by one.

One thing I'm not sure about is why they had the vaccine. This reaction is something that showed up in the clinical trials and is also something that happens with other vaccines.

I supposed it depends on how severe the "symptoms of anaphylactoid reaction"" were. I've never experienced that so I have no idea how severe a reaction is required for epinephrine to be administered like it was in these cases.

It infers it when it says the patients are "recovering well". The fact that its even a report shows there must have been enough concern to send an alert concerning those who are sensitive to allergic reactions. saying they shouldn't take the vaccine at all

Sensitive to what allergic reaction? Someone is allergic to everything. That's just how it is.

An anaphylactoid reaction does imply a serious reaction though, but you are right about there being some fear mongering. This was a known reaction from the clinical trials and also happens with some other vaccines.

The article doesn't specify these people had an anaphylactic reaction, it just says "allergic". For all we know these people had a bit of skin redness.

The BBC article has more details:
https://www.bbc.com/news/health-55244122
The two people had a reaction shortly after having the new jab, had treatment and are both fine now.

They are understood to have had an anaphylactoid reaction, which tends to involve a skin rash, breathlessness and sometimes a drop in blood pressure. This is not the same as anaphylaxis which can be fatal.

Both NHS workers have a history of serious allergies and carry adrenaline pens around with them.

https://www.merckmanuals.com/home/immune-disorders/allergic-reactions-and-other-hypersensitivity-disorders/anaphylactic-reactions

Anaphylactic reactions are sudden, widespread, potentially severe and life-threatening allergic reactions.

  • Anaphylactic reactions often begin with a feeling of uneasiness, followed by tingling sensations and dizziness.
  • People then rapidly develop severe symptoms, including generalized itching and hives, swelling, wheezing and difficulty breathing, fainting, and/or other allergy symptoms.
  • These reactions can quickly become life threatening.
  • Avoiding the trigger is the best approach.
  • Anaphylactic reactions require emergency treatment.
  • Affected people should always carry a self-injecting syringe of epinephrine.
(See also Overview of Allergic Reactions.)
Like other allergic reactions, an anaphylactic reaction does not usually occur after the first exposure to an allergen (the substance that triggers an allergic reaction) but may occur after a person is exposed to the allergen again. However, many people do not recall a first exposure. Any allergen that causes an anaphylactic reaction in a person is likely to cause that reaction when the person is exposed again, unless measures are taken to prevent it.

It clearly says that they did. What they didnt have was "anaphylaxis".

This is assuming an "anaphylactic" and "anaphylactoid" reaction is the same thing.

I'm assuming so since the suffixes has the same meaning.

From the BBC article:
This is a story to assess with your head and not your gut.

No effective medicine is without side effects so you have to balance the risk and the benefit.

Remember, one in a thousand people in the UK have died after being infected with coronavirus this year and that figure is rising daily.

Two people, out of thousands vaccinated yesterday, had an allergic reaction which they recovered from.

Such reactions can happen with any vaccine and are treated with drugs such as steroids or adrenaline.

The trials reported one possible allergic reaction per thousand people immunised that may have been related to the jab.

The MHRA has given targeted advice to those most at risk, but for the overwhelming majority of people, this changes nothing.

Allergic reactions were found in the trials. That is why the news stories mention that In this, they reported a very small number of allergic reactions in both the vaccine and placebo groups (0.63% and 0.51%) or The trials reported one possible allergic reaction per thousand people immunised that may have been related to the jab.

Guys, quit being dicks. I have been warned off certain vaccines due to an allergy to components. I'd really like to know if such an issue might apply to this one.

And now I know why those medication commercials expressly state not to take [blank] if allergic to it or its components. Some people will rush you into taking anything labeled "cure" before checking.

As a doctor, nothing I've seen about the side effects really scares me. Anaphylaxis/severe allergic reactions can happen with the flu vaccine too. It's a very minimal risk and places that administer the vaccines should (hopefully) have Epipens available just in case.

As for Bell's Palsy, it's generally temporary (ie a few weeks) and won't kill you.
