It has a lot going on in each scene. It was Stanley Kubrick's last film, and he crammed it with visual details and subliminal images and messages, as he did all his films. Between hidden messages the visuals and the dialogue, there's a lot going on in each scene. It's solid dramatically, the two stars Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were literally married at the time, which is pretty wild considering the subject matter. There are a few scenes that are very intense if you are not familiar with the film. But it does go at a slow pace. I would say if you can enjoy movies that are older or just a little bit slower, more slice of life stuff maybe, you will probably enjoy EWS. Not that it's slice of life.... but it kind of is.... it's a strange movie, very dreamlike. There's nothing quite like it. Stick with it. It goes places you're not expecting at the start of the film.
