Texas Waitress, Emily Bauer who said she was stiffed a massive $2000 tip from a gift from a customer by her boss has now been given the money after he used his OWN FUNDS to pay her as it now appears the stunt by that customer was a PRANK!!

She was workign at Red Hook Seafood and Bar in San Antonio when an unidentified male customer left an enormous gratuity for her but the mother of 2 failed to get it at the end of her shift and her bosses said they could not process amounts larger than $500

She went to the media right after in a complaint that led a barrage of negative publicity to the already struggling restaurant

John Cheng said the customer's card declined the amount of $2000 and therefor unable to pass the gratuity to her. She said they should just charge the card 4 times of 500 each but he said that would be fraud.

However, he attempted to resolve the issue to stop the bleeding and agreed to pay her OUT OF POCKET. He said "It's christmas eve and everybody is struggling. I'm ready to give it to her as a christmas gift"

Emily apologized for the negative attention she brought to the business and said it was a misunderstanding. She said "Maybe the way it's being epxlained now isn't the way it was explained ot me at the time"..

She was overwhelmed by the 2000 given by her boss using his own money and said "The fact that the owner of my job is willing to give it to me, even thougt it wasn't his mess up, i can't thank him enough for that" She was overwhelmed when she initially thought she got 2000 of which she was gonna SPLURGE on christmas presents for her kids

Management says they have been inundated with abuse after it looked like they stiffed Bauer as an employee told dailymail that they had zero customers since as they had to take to facebook to prove that the 2000 never went through.

They tried multiple attempts through Visa and it was declined

The gentleman actually CALLED and asked if Emily got the tip but when they explained his card wouldn't go through, they asked if he would come in with the money and cheque to give to her personally but they quickly HUNG UP as it appears now he may have played a PRANK on her by writing the giant tip amount on his bill

Do you think Emily should Quit after what she did?

And that's going to affect their business, either slowing it down or closing it and she'll be out of a job or have hours cut, cancel culture at it's best.

Im kind of curious why yelp sucks so badly. Google doesn't have any fake reviews from the outrage mob.

I don't understand. She apparently did significant harm to the business taking this to the media over something that, it turns out, actually wasn't their fault? And they're paying her for it for PR?

Business being down in a restaurant hits the other servers hardest. If she's not sharing this "tip" with them, I imagine she's going to be pretty damn unpopular in that restaurant.

They talked to the guy on the phone and he said he would come back but never did. And she completely threw the restaurant under the bus and acted like it was their fault.

When she first went to the media about it. The news clip even starts with the anchor literally saying that she says her employer is refusing to give it to her.

But Bauer hasnt been able to get a single cent from her tip. She said the system at the restaurant wouldnt allow her to process the money. She said her manager told her the limit of a tip is $500. The other servers suggested the restaurant give Bauer four payments of $500 but she said they refused.

I dont think its our responsibility as a server to say, 'oh, you cant tip me that much, Im sorry. Oh no, theres a limit, Im sorry.' If thats the case, there should be signs posted on the restaurants or the receipt to say theres a limit of $500, Bauer said. Everybody Ive talked to has been like, 'Ive never heard of that before.' If its left to you and signed by that person, then you should be able to get it.

That's not throwing the buisness under the bus. She explained that four payments of $500 would be considered fraud later on. As for the 2nd paragraph, she's saying that the info should be more clear, but she's not blaming the boss on not getting the tip.

Tbh though, this is such a rare occasion that I doubt the boss even knew about the limit.

I don't know what to tell you if you don't think that original article, and her words in it, are making it look like the restaurant is at fault here. It clearly is. The fact that she went back later and clarified doesn't change the initial making it look like her employer did something wrong.

Since they have lost a shitload of business over this my guess is that once the media attention dies down and no one cares about them anymore then she will get let go because of the lack of business. The other servers probably hate her now to as not only is there a pandemic bringing in less people but now they are getting review bombed because of her and losing even more money in tips when she gets two grand that she plans to keep for herself.
