I did 2 melee and 2 mages in Origins but with no healing spells the 2nd mage seems kinda pointless. Will I be fine with 3 melee or are there bosses later on that will wreck me.

I always did 1 melee, 2 mage, 1 ranged rogue, but I probably only got away with it because I didn't play at the higher difficulties

Don't see why it would be, given that you can constantly build up armor with attacks and gems (on hit: +3 armor, etc.). It's good to have someone who can do healing/shields, though.

Myself (Archer)
Varrick
Melee
Mage

Don't need more than one melee, at least on normal.

On normal it's probably fine, but on harder difficulties I wouldn't advise it from what I recall. Mage/Rogue offers some useful things warriors can't

yeah I might put Varrick back in. The enemy mages that teleport and do the frost traps are way too annoying with 3 melee

and bears fuck me up

if youre not on nightmare honestly it doesnt matter.

Id run around with Me, Bull, Cassandra, and a mage.

Even on higher difficulties, Inquisition is an easy enough game that sub-optimal parties (if three melee can be considered sub-optimal) aren't a dealbreaker.
