I swear you guys are pulling crap out of thin air. Like Bill Burr got up on stage for his latest netflix special and called out everyone from feminists to trans people to #metoo and it was hilarious and well received.

George Carlin wasn't even that edgy, he just went after the rich all the time. Easiest punching bag in comedy.

Bill Burr has been vocal about how much crap he gets for a lot of his jokes and how he feels as though the number of acceptable topics keeps shrinking. He even talks about how he playtests his jokes on the archetype the joke is about in one group of audience to make sure it's acceptable, only to get criticized (not from the archetype, mind you) in another audience group.

Dave Chappelle has had an ongoing arc over the years of dealing with his jokes on the LGBT group and getting criticized for it across his specials.

These guys really take it to heart when they get criticized on their jokes being offensive as they're not out to offend people but to make people consider an alternate perspective as they laugh.

Right? Its such a headache to watch these people complain about free speech (meaning dont criticize what they like) when they really want to be the arbiters on what youre allowed to say and who youre allowed to criticize.

He once said that its getting to be impossible to perform at colleges anymore.

Keep in mind this is Jerry Seinfeld, a comedian who barely ever swears and 99% of his material is just amusing observations, saying this.

And yet he still does the jokes, and he still "gets away with it." Criticism is a part of being an entertainer. There is not one single professional entertainer whose work has not been criticized, and I find it so weird when people act like comedy should be an exception.

I think new comedians are lame tbh, too many observations and super gotcha moments that end up being lame

theres nothing absurd or anything really arguing a shitty or funny case for something stupid

new comedians seldom wanna come off across as stupid anymore >_>

We live in an era where every single person can give their opinion. There are a LOT of people who actively look at whatever dumb take they can find. Look guys, this person with 12 followers has tweeted something stupid! That means the entire *group this person associates with* thinks that!

Just remember one very basic thing in life: you can't please everybody. No matter what you say or do, some people are going to dislike it. Comedians offending people is absolutely nothing new. So long as they punch up instead of punching down, they'll have more fans than critics.

I don't disagree with this post, but I do want to point out that these aren't new comedians complaining about being criticized. Some of these comedians have been around for decades and have dealt with criticism their entire careers. So when these people, who have not historically been known for complaining about audiences come out and say that things are worse, it's fair to assume there is some weight or truth behind their statements. They are literally the foremost experts in their field.

How? South Park is alive and kicking, they have never toned it down for the sake of being PC and it's still as funny as ever.

The only difference between South Park and other shows and/or comedians is they have the balls to not give af if you cry about their comedy. Maybe these "comedians" who are crying about comedy being ruined should just do what they think is funny and stop worrying about PC babies.
