What are the easiest/shortest games on the console? I'm just looking for something quick to play that won't require too much effort.

uh actually I don't think that you'd be able to find much in the way of short/easy platformer or action games on there, besides the sonic games and maybe the illusion or wonder boy games IDK. With the genesis it kind of felt like there was more of the mindset of trying to be "hardcore" for "tough guys" and companies making harder games or jacking up the difficulty in cheap ways when localizing Japanese to punish people for trying to rent games or to be more for "hardcore" gamers. Like Contra Hard Corps reducing the amount of hit points in the us version, or Castlevania Bloodlines having a limited amount of continues in the us version, Kid Chameleon is super long and pretty difficult in places without having any means to save your progress (well on the original cart), etc.

Streets of rage. You could also beat gunstar heroes in like an hour or two if you're good

I feel like I have heard Ecco and Kid Chameleon are both on the highest tier of Sega difficulty, unless that post was joking. I definitely agree with the assessment that there aren't too many of these classic Genesis games that can be considered easy. I was going through the list and almost every one looks somewhere from "fairly tough" to "insanely hard".

Mickey might work though!

Ecco was baffling to me as a kid. I know i can get through it now but it was one of the toughest games that I played (really young)

For what its worth Kid Chameleon is awesome ever though it always kicked my ass. All the transformations are really cool. I would recommend it anyway if you dont mind never beating it xd

I'm guessing none of these games on here outside of the RPGs had a native save system, right? I'm trying to play these as legit as possible.

Comix Zone is like 20 minutes long

Comix Zone is hard as fuck and equally as frustrating unless you know what you're doing.

Can't recommend Gunstar Heroes enough. It's like Contra except you're OP. There are 4 weapon types and then you can pickup a secondary type to create a unique weapon. So you could pickup the fire weapon to have a flamethrower and then pick up a secondary laser to create a flame lazor. It's awesome just play it already

Yeah I had tried Comix Zone and can confirm it was much harder than I was expecting. Almost every good Genesis game seems to fall into the category of "well I hope you like starting over from the beginning a lot".

Thats basically 8 and 16 bit gaming in general with some exceptions tho.
