modern family guy at least exists in this weird space where it's some self-loathing meta-show that makes a lot of fun of itself
it can occasionally be amusing, but more often than not it's not even trying to make edgy jokes anymore and is just doing really boring shit
even when it has a creative concept it's the most boring take imaginable

modern simpsons manages to have no soul and charm whatsoever and isn't even amusing ironically

It really wasn't. I have no idea why people think the first three seasons actually have more quality than the rest. It's still the same jokes, except it's Meg being bullied instead of Peter ending up in space.
everyone got flanderized after the first few seasons

Burr is okay, just starting to act like old man yells at sky.. but that last thing he did on TV was great

Thats how I feel about Trevor Noah or George Carlin tbh though

But I try not to analyze comedy like that because it takes the funny away, its only when I get an ear full of smart that Im like man, stop killing comedy

Well... if you are easily offended, of course you won't find show like Family guy or South Park funny. However I think modern South park got better jokes...

Family guy is kinda braindead though, but it's something you watch well you feel stressed, you don't watch this show to think.

I thought the joke was "Asian Reporter" as if there was a difference and then her being obviously Asian, as if you wouldn't be able to tell otherwise.

Not a good joke, mind you, but that's what I thought was supposed to be funny.

Its this. How do people not get this? Regardless of whether you think its funny.

Family guy has some funny moments but it never coalesces into anything substantial.

Like. All of its funniest moments don't need ANY context because they are just like short 30-second segments that don't really have anything to do with characterization or development.

And that's not a BAD thing when they're funny. Like that clip of Randy Newman was funny. Or the moment where they talk about the godfather while flooded. They're just little snippets that are funny. But with their jokes it usually doesn't matter if you know the context of the characters or the episode. Seth macfarlane might as well just write his jokes as 30-second clips instead of pretending they're cohesive tv episodes.

Whereas King of the Hill is funny usually because you have these different characters who are more realistic, and the humor is usually from seeing them bouncing off each other, like how a conservative father struggles to understand his less traditional son.

Futurama's a good example of a cartoon whose humor depends on riffing on a genre (sci fi), but it also depends on character writing.

A cartoon like South Park is similar to Family Guy because both of them use gross-out humor and random pop culture references as jokes. But I think South Park used to do a better job of tying those pop culture references into a coherent story rather than just using them for a 30-second unrelated clip. That said, South Park has been crappy for at least 5 years IMO. For unrelated reasons.

Asian reporter Tricia Takanawa -- I don't think there's really a clever joke here. I think it's just meant to make you laugh because it's so out of place to overtly point out her ethnicity when introducing her. They call her by her race so flippantly and she doesn't seem to care, but if you did it IRL it would actually be a big deal. It's silly to see her just go along with it, I think that's actually it. It also sets her up for potential race jokes.

Whats the joke, Family Guy?
Theyre making fun of local Fox LA reporter Tricia Takasugi. I noticed this a few years ago when I saw on the news. Its kinda messed up because she even sound like the family guy character.

Family Guy was a B tier "adult" cartoon at its peak. South Park, King of the Hill, and Futurama are all A tier.
