think i wanna tackle this apparently amazing VN since i'm in the mood for it... was hoping to stumble across a horror one but just gonna go with this.

i enjoyed 999 but was slightly disappointed it ended up on the wrong side of the supernatural but at least knowing the general premise from the beginning with stein's gate, it won't come as a surprise.

anyways i read that getting the best(canon?) ending is practically impossible without doing incredibly specific things but i wanna go in blind for the first run. isn't the game like 999 where you have chapters and then you can pick and choose where you left off to get the rest of the endings or do i really need a guide for it?

It has clearly marked chapters just make separate save files at the start of each one.

You're going to need a guide to get the true ending. I wouldn't use one my first playthrough, though.

Play normally until your first ending and keep your saves for each chapter. Then use a guide for the True ending or the other endings if you want them.

It's not done very well honestly. It's the biggest flaw of the game. Prepare to fast forward a lot.
