Yeah that video was great. More celebrities and high profile people really need to stand against this sort of garbage. Whether it's comedians like Chappelle, singers like The Beatles, Taylor Swift and Prince or wrestlers for the WWE the control that corporations have over people and their work is just absolutely disgusting and indefensible. The excuse that they 'signed the contract' is what they fall back on because they know they purposefully fucked them. That card trick game was a great analogy.

he can be egotistical and rich and it can still be wrong what they did, because it was and still is. the fact that he takes it so personally despite his astronomical fame doesn't hurt his cause, if anything it legitimizes it. he's speaking out against the system that fucks everyone and taking control of the narrative publicly.

No he didn't. He says he got paid but it wasn't very much. Viacom can easily bring out the receipts if they wanted to prove him wrong.

This whole "They're rich right now so why do they care" thing is dumb. If it weren't for their current status nobody would care at all. A whole lot of people would be in that same situation but don't have enough success to speak out. The system is broken for more people than just Dave.

It's very similar to what Taylor Swift is going through in the music industry right now. Who is re-recording all of her old stuff in an attempt to get some sort of ownership of her work. Which these executives rob them of.

From what Ive heard its something like he was supposed to get 50% of the profits from the show but it ended up being wildly more successful than they predicted and they tried to cut it down to 10% because they wanted to keep all that money. Not sure if this is accurate but thats basically the story that floats around.

He was paid by Comedy Central but it was significantly less than what the network/Viacom was actually earning in revenue. So when he was offered a fuckton of money for season 3, he refused, he ditched the show and all the money on the table. But the main point is that his name is attached to that show, but he has zero say or ownership to it. That's fucked up!

also for the record, Neal Brennan was an important writer and presence on that show and he didn't get shit either.

I am surprised they did this for Chappelle but it will probably get them more money in the long run since he will likely stay with them. They of course had the right to air it and so does HBO Max because he signed the contract but he is certainly not the first to get screwed by not understanding the full contract and I hope he gets some royalties from it.

As an an unashamed adblock user yeah I'm not actually grieving over Chappelle being paid no more what his contract entitled him to. If he ended up broke it'd be rough, but he's still a very successful man.

Netflix has a deal with Chappelle, so it's in their best interests to placate him. CBS and HBO have no incentive to, hence why the show is still up on their platforms. It's just business. Viacom isn't a charity.
