It's probably the biggest global event to happen in our lifetimes. It's changed the way that hundreds of millions of people have been living over the past eight months or so -- far more than watching a news report from a distant country ever has.

From a purely German perspective I'd say that German reunification was the biggest event in my lifetime. From a global perspective I'd agree that Covid-19 is the biggest event.

9/11 is so engrained in US culture right now but I agree Covid is bigger. Its worldwide and despite our terrible handling of it, it will have lasting effects everywhere.

I think covid has surpassed 9/11 for sure. Plus, to me, 9/11 seems almost like a lifetime ago especially with how things have gotten since then.

From a global perspective, probably. But 9/11 just feels bigger. 9/11 was basically the cause of the war on terror, the war in Iraq, the patriot act, the further destabilization of the Middle East.

I'm sure COVID will also have implications that last for years to come but right now, from the perspective of an American, 9/11 still takes it.

9/11 seems to still be bigger in america, but covid is bigger worldwide.

also the fact that the media was primarily newspapers, mags, and TV back in '01 makes it seem like it was less of a big deal. But it fully saturated everything for like 2 or 3 weeks straight. Even MTV got in on it, spawning the "What's Ja Rule think?" meme

Yeah we still don't know what the fallout of COVID will be but 9/11 led to far more than just the deaths of the people in the Twin Towers
