Theyre a stupid concept all the way. The smart way of doing that would be to have a certain amount distributed between stats. Youd still have the "optimal" stuff people went for, but you'd have room for sidegrades. The way it is, you just get a bunch of trash shinies that feel really bad.

Pokemon is just bad.

The way it works now you can train EVs easily and even reset mistakes. It's pretty great now. IVs can still be a little tricky, but it is definitely easier now than it was before.

It didn't affect my experience for good or bad. Never cared about IVs/EVs since I don't play competitive/online, so they're pretty much useless for single player use.

I already stopped playing by the time they info became widespread. I came back for XY, but only cared about just playing through the game so they don't matter.

Less fun

It grew to a point where I would just have fun playing the main game and thought of raising a few postgame to battle friends or online, but then all I'd ever hear about is EVs/IVs and the perfect movesets and I lost interest in the postgame.

I got Sun for Christmas two years ago and while I've installed it I've yet to play it. Haven't bothered with anything since X which I really enjoyed.

funner tbh

even when i was a young lad, i never knew why the same pokemon has completely different stats when they were at level 100 and after i drugged them with carbos, iron, calcium etc. as sad as this sounds it was the biggest mystery in my life when i was 9 years old lmao

when i fully understood what ivs were in gen 3 then everything started making sense

I didn't mess with it at all until Pokemon Sword and Shield made it super easy to keep track of, and that's pretty much all I do in those games now. Just breed OP versions of my favorite Pokemon and trade them or make teams out of them.

Best result of that so far is a legit shiny Torchic I got with 5IVs and the Speed Boost hidden ability in a Fast Ball. Made it a level 100 Blaziken, hypertrained the last stat, and now it's 6IV, EV trained with the appropriate nature (I forgot what it was but it was bred that way), and crushing everything

I don't like how EVs weakened defensive-focused pokemon. I think that and natures, or I guess gen 3 in general, started my dislike of where the franchise was going.

Less.

Pokemon was at its best when I knew nothing about the in-depth mechanics and was baffled why my Gastly couldn't hurt that wild Pidgey with Lick.

Every little minute detail or change I learned about the mechanics meant about an hour of revelations followed by prolonged disappointment most of the time.

Probably a good reason why I decided to shelf Pokemon from my gaming life for good from Gen 4 onwards, minus casual inquiries into my brother's Gen 4/Gen 5 runs and an in-depth/100% playthrough of Pokemon Conquest.

Don't bother with IVs but I have used EVs to play around with different roles for Pokmon and that was fun.

I find it annoying, because you have to catch multiple of the same pokemon to get what you want. I'm playing Sun (first time doing pokemon since Gen 1) and I'm not messing around with trying to get the right nature. Caught a shiny Spearow and it has TERRIBLE stats.
