They're basically joining it because they want to live in an alternate reality where they can post and follow anything they want without having their facts checked, right? So that's going to lead to them slipping down a giant rabbit hole where their ideas become pretty radical and uncontested... they can just communicate with other people and pretend like the false information they spread in true, in their alternate reality, and they will support and validate each other through the whole thing, until reality as we know it no longer exists in their community.

Should I just go ahead and unfriend people on Facebook when they announce that they have joined this app, and avoid them IRL, too?

You clearly don't live in an area with a lot of Trump supporters. All my coworkers are going there because they think the election was fake news, so they are going to join a community where everything is made up and the facts dont matter.

The bulk of people joining are people who believe Trump got cheated out of the election and will still be the rightful president when the next term starts in January. They are and will be using this social media platform to spread misinformation and conspiracy theories, and likely form a militia amongst themselves (members of the app).

Right-wing echo chambers disconnected from reality are how we ultimately ended up with Trump in the first place. They'd also likely be the first people to march on a Biden white house with assault weapons.

So then decide for yourself what is truly righteous. Associate yourself with people, ideas, thoughts, etc that are in alignment with honesty, integrity and truth. Forget what anyone else says or tells you to think. Do what you feel is absolute and 100% justified in the direction you want to go.
