I don't think its intended as a serious benchmark, more like a quick and easy way of demonstrating how a lot of hollywood writes female characters as love interests or romance crazy and nothing else.

Its a harmless dumb talking point for the most part. If someone actually tries to use it as a serious critique of a film, its usually just one of several stupid things the person is mentioning.

Yeah, it shouldn't be used to critique any single film, but it is a good, quick way of demonstrating a broader problem in Hollywood.
