Probably part of the reason society is shifting into a mode of avoiding discussions.

Upvote downvote means if you see someone make a good point but you don't like that, you just downvote it.
Lile they could be right telling a truth you hate so instead of fumbling with a reply you cowardly and silently downvote it.
Or you upvote the other guy to make it look like the truth isn't supported or w/e.
