Again, I am playing the same game as you guys and I have no clue about what 90% of what is being said in this topic, is.

Currently at world level 1, adventure rank 24 and my characters are around level 40.

Mona as main DPS requires a lot of Constellations to get her charged attack bonuses. Her biggest strength comes from the debuff on enemies where they take more damage from elemental reactions which is something she can't do alone.

If you really want to make it work then you'll need to pair her with a damaging pyro character that doesn't need to be on the field such as Xiangling (optimal), or Xinyan or Bennett.

Ideally you want two pyro characters so the best support combo for Mona is Xiangling + Bennett.

Your fourth character I recommend Barbara for double synergy + she has a strong buff for damage and can use Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers which is even more buff, or Fischl for additional reaction elements. If you want to freeze lock people, Kaeya is highly suggested since his burst works like Xiangling just Cryo instead.

Didn't know about the constellation part, I've been pairing her with Diluc, she'd lay down a taunting water field or her burst, and then switch to diluc for his fire attacks

I am kinda suffering by not settling on a team. I hate that aside from the limited test runs you can't experiment with different characters at high levels to see if they're useful or synergize without investing resources. And now I've changed my mind enough times that my resources are spread thin.

Also, I'm disappointed that my only two 5 stars are Qiqi and Zhongli, neither of which I can make into a main carry.

You can kinda make Zhongli a main DPS. You have to focus everything on spamming the ult as soon as possible. 2 pc Petra and 2 pc Noblesse Oblige.

It won't be as effective as Diluc but it's not that bad.

I mean a support is still important for every team comp. And it's not like there aren't several amazing 4* main dps picks. We got a free fischl already so as long as you get another copy for her c1 she's an easy main dps option.

Fischl isn't really a good main DPS. She's got a bad burst and her skill doesn't need her to be on the field. She pairs best with Klee as main DPS.

She's not a top tier one
That's not to say she's not good

Fischl is already my main dps, but the single target attacking is less than ideal. Working on replacing her with Bennett.

Those are strong supports though that can supplement strong 4* DPS characters like Razor, Xiangling. etc. Don't be disappointed because Qiqi in particular is nice to have. You can spot Liyue specialties and have a solid cryo that is a hard slot to fill (though a little easier with Diona).

I can solo WL5 Childe with just Qiqi. She can carry if you're patient because her damage isn't great.

Zhongli is cool but takes a lot of work to come out barely less effective than other similar characters. Noelle has almost as good shields, much better damage, and can heal without C6. The only thing Zhongli does "better" is petrify which sucks.

In terms of shields, Diona currently has the strongest shield in the game, and can also heal a little (once again without needing Constellations) AND she does cryo damage which is favorite right now because of Melt.

When it comes to Geo Damage, all other characters including traveler do more damage by a lot.

His basic attacks also have lower mods than Xiangling.

Zhongli actually has a stronger shield, but his takes longer to cast which means he can be interupted. It comes down to what you want: Shields + high burst damage or shields + healing. I have Qiqi already and her healing blows Diona's away. Plus Diona causes a self cryo debuff which can cause issues.

So how do the element boosting artifacts function exactly? Say if I were to use Venti's/Xianling's EB or Chongyun's ES boosted by an artifact with the respective element. And then switch to my DPS to melee. Are the effects of that elemental boost given by the support still active or only when said support is on the field?

It's all based on the person that used the effect. In the case of artifacts with unique buffs you have to carefully read the wording. For example, Archaic Petra says "when you pick up a crystallize shard, all party members get bonus damage to that element" this means the person wearing archaic petra has to pick it up. Because if you pick it up with someone else, then archaic petra currently isn't in effect.

But if you've got something generic like "Anemo dmg +20%" then feel free to fire and forget.

The same thing applies to weapons as well. If you want to reset a skill using Sacrificial weapons, the person actually using the skill has to be the one to reset it. This is mostly applicable to just deployables such as Fischl Oz who can deal damage while Fischl isn't on the field.

Thanks for the info. I was mostly asking in regards to "Element dmg +X%" but I learned a lot from this. Am almost ready building my main and secondary DPS and was wondering how to tackle my supports
