Don't disagree. I 100%'d TTYD a few weeks ago and didnt die once, I just remember a lot of comets being horrifying back in 2007 lol

I mean, some of the daredevil comets are irritating, but they're not that big of a deal.

The harder stars were a lot easier than I remember. Either that or y spin helped a ton.

I struggled heavily with Daredevil Bouldergeist when I was younger. It was one of the two stars that was significantly easier when I last played the game a few years ago. The other was Rolling Gizmo Galaxy, which surprisingly ended up being the easiest of the Trial Galaxies. Fuck Bubble Blast though.

It becomes infinitely easier when you realize you can use Star Bits to pop the black boulders early.

Must be said, Galaxy has a lot of DNA in common with Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat. Pretty sure several models and sound effects are lifted straight out of it on top of a lot of sections that "rhyme", for lack of a better word, with JB. Makes sense, as Yoshiaki Koizumi was the director on both of them.

Fantastic game. I think Ive only played it once or twice, but Ive been revisiting it on the Switch and its brought back a lot of memories! The game has held up incredibly well. Im also surprised at how quickly I got used to using the gyro in the Pro Controller.

Yeah the presentation is fantastic but after the wow factor wears off it kind of sucks because it's so mind numbing easy and linear. Also:

Let's not forget the awful linear level design. The galaxy theme is a gimmick for not designing well thought out explorable cohesive worlds.

In Galaxy 2 theres a prankster comet where you have to beat every boss from Galaxy 1 in 5 minutes. Bouldergeist is the biggest challenge, since it really sets you back if you waste any of the bomb ghosts.

I like Odyssey the best followed close by SMG2. 3DL is by far the worst 3D Mario imo, like SMG it's extremely linear and easy but without the presentation. It's also very short.

Have you ever considered the idea that linearity is not inherently bad and nonlinearity is not inherently good? There is absolutely nothing wrong with linearity.

Playing Sunshine or Odyssey and then playing Galaxy is jarring. Mario is at his slowest in Galaxy. He takes a while to build up momentum, he's slippery, and he doesn't have cool diving moves. He just feels so restricted.

Most people hate luigi's purple coins the most but I hate the one in the ring ocean because of how fucking tedious it is.

It's more accurate to say that he doesn't really have momentum. He can walk at top speed and long jump and those are basically his 2 speeds. However, this isn't an issue because the levels are actually designed with these limitations in mind. Mario spends a lot of time off the ground too.

I never played Galaxy originally but I've been watching my girlfriend play it. I'm kind of completely stunned at the level design. It so fucking clever.

Maybe mario is less mobile in this game, but I really think its a much more creative and fantastical world than odyssey presented.

Mario himself might be a little bit slower than the other games, but I think the spin really keeps the platforming fluid. Of course the spin is also what makes it the easiest 3D Mario game. But there's nothing wrong with being the easiest one.

In the Mario community and general gaming community as a whole SMG is very polarizing, people either hold it in high regard like you or shit on it for being too easy and Mario moving too slow like me. This topic reinforces that sentiment as I'm not the only one shitting on it and you're not the only one holding it in high regard.

I've never really seen it be that polarizing, but maybe I just haven't been to many Mario communities. But for the general gaming community I usually see nothing but praise for the game. The only game I ever really see get any shit is Sunshine. And all 3D Marios overall seem to be pretty highly regarded except for 3D Land I suppose. But that never really fits in anyway in my opinion since it was a 3DS game.

So I got the 120 stars last night. The game would have been 1000x better if Mario didn't lose momentum after a long jump. Dunno why the fuck they decided to do that. Still a good game, its like a bunch of cool ideas that never get fully realized tho.

Also even though this game has the best water level mechanics in a Mario game they sure do overdo it with the water levels. Half those levels didn't need to exist lol

My biggest annoyance in Galaxy is that I'm accidentally in the "turn around" state that goes into side flip rather than a regular jump more often than I'd like. It's pretty minor, but I do get annoyed once in a while.

I didn't mean to sound like I'm shitting on it. I just noticed on my recent playthrough that I didn't enjoy the movement as much as I recalled. It's still a clever little game, and I enjoy thebspace mythos it and Galaxy 2 have.

Luigi mode is way more fun, he can move faster and jump higher.

There we go, 120 stars. The hate for Sea Slide's purple coins is heavily overblown.
