People are wrong for focusing on the gacha. We have actual good gachas like Dragalia Lost.

What is always irredeemable trash is "open world" cancer.

I started playing today, I don't see myself continuing. I'm not familiar with gotcha games so all the things going on confuse me. Also you have to have 4 characters at a time.

It's fine.
If you own a Switch just get Breath of the Wild. If you've already beaten that and want more or don't own a Switch then Genshin is decent, but it has the problem of feeling a bit empty. It's got the same MMO grind of "go here kill X", but at a much smaller and faster size and without the ability to randomly meet other players (with a very small exception for these mini dungeon areas which are 4 player).

Overall though, it's free. Try it out for yourself.

Oh and I will say one thing I liked about it a lot in my week with it was that you can play it on your computer or phone. While I personally wouldn't do anything that seems challenging on mobile, it is a great option for doing little side quests.

I got about 2 weeks out of it before I just ran out of things to do. Now I just log in, do daily missions and use up that eclipse/stamina thing and Im done.

But thats not bad for a free game. Gacha is optional for the most part but you may want to look into re roll guides so you can at least get 1 5 star character which helps.

Only on PC and mobile. And um. If you have to reroll over and over to get anything good, that means it IS based on good luck. Jfc did you even think before typing or what?

seeing as you have unlimited retries then in response to your post you don't need to spend either money or have amazing luck to get a good character.

I've got a single 5* (Venti) on my 160 pulls as a F2P player. He's on my 2nd Abyss party as every single 4* I've pulled or got by simply playing the game is doing a fine job of clearing all content.
I don't like the concept of gacha and have never even bothered to put more than 2 hours of my time into these types of games. If you have just a bit of experience with RPGs and building characters, you can easily clear all content currently available. This notion that you need "good" characters is absolutely ridiculous.

who said anything about needing all 5 star characters?

a certain 4 star character is already one of the absolute best characters in the game and seeing as you're guaranteed a 4 star character/weapon every 10 pulls, your odds of getting a good character by rerolling is already incredibly good.

i mean if somebody wants to convince themselves the only way to get a good character in the game is by spending money or only available through luck, then that sounds very much like a personal problem.

I ended up getting it. It seems like a decent RPG although the controls seem a bit wonky. It's missing some polish.
