Racism, homophobia, sexism, ageism, it seems there is always some excuse or "reason" behind hatred, and it's never valid. Sometimes people offer the excuse "they were raised that way." That doesn't excuse it. At some point, you reach the age of reason and have to be held accountable for not reevaluating your own morality and realizing that you have been misled by wayward role models.

To take it a step further: sometimes people say you should only judge based on how someone treats you. But to me, even that's not fair. You may encounter a stranger for five minutes out of your entire life, and if he or she has an attitude, your lifelong impression of that person is "they are a jerk." Well, perhaps they were going through a rough time at that moment. Losing a job, going through financial difficulty, a family member or friend dying, etc. No one is 100% happy and friendly all the time. Giving people the benefit of the doubt will clear toxicity in your soul.

It just seems like it should be so easy to get along with everyone.

Humans are tribal. "Us vs Them" has been around since pointed sticks.
