I have all 3
Start with 1?

1 is great as long you can stomach repetitive environments and enemies. great atmosphere that can be genuinely creepy, satisfying shooting and effects, great AI, amazing sound design, intriguing story. first expansion is good albeit feeling like a retread with the second expansion being OK.

2 fixes up some of the first ones faults (environments, enemies, general gameplay mixup), but also takes a step back in others (weaker AI, neutered controls/abilities. very noticeably designed around consoles unlike the first which was built around pc). still good with most of the positives of the first one and a solid continuation of the firsts interesting story.

3 is mediocre at best. competent shooting with one or two interesting sequences and some interesting coop/multiplayer concepts. story is butchered, level design is boring, half the length of the first two games (which were already short). not terrible, but you can very easily tell the devs of 1 and 2 didnt work on 3 and that it started to succumb to the generic shooter fatigue of the early 2010's.

The first one was excellent, the third was very good, but the second was a little boring.

I had so much fun with the original. The combination of extremely hard gameplay, slow motion, and the sketchy environments worked VERY well.

Played the first 30 minutes

Nothing too scary, just a standard pew pew so far. Maybe I'll save the intense moments for later tonight, when it's dark

Yes

No game is scary imo. But the First F.E.A.R. is excellent. The envirements are repetitive but the gunplay is some of the very best. I still prefer Monoliths other classics Blood, and No One Lives Forever but FEAR is still great.

I dont get scared by games but the first couple games did have some pretty creepy stuff. And not just jump scares

but the AI in the first game is amazing. Not as great in the other two.

How are the expansions to #1? "TimeGate Studios has released two expansion packs, F.E.A.R. Extraction Point in October 2006,[6] and F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate in November 2007." I have these as separate games on my Steam account

And if 2/3 are shit, that's fine, I only have time to play the first... for spooky szn

i didnt play 3, but I played the first two around release and pretty much agree

the ending of 2 was kind of weird but the first two games were pretty solid

not that scary since iirc the scary stuff is revolved around non-interactive moments only.

i mean yeah, if you don't run towards the opposite door when you're being chased then it'll result in game over but you're not gonna die from engaging with ghosts or whatever.
