Super nintendo vs Playstation 2! Which was better?

These are the 2 systems I see most consistently praised and loved. Both have excellent library's of games but imo the SNES was easily my favorite of the two. What about you guys?

I generally go with the PS2, but both are fantastic. The PS1 completes my top 3.

The SNES is possibly better when it comes to the 95+/100 all-time classics (although even that is debatable), but the PS2 library has amazing depth.

It's hella close, but my love of JRPGs pushes the SNES ahead by just an inch.

PS1 blows them both out of the water of course.

A bit of a weird thing when judging the ps2's library for me is that many of the games had better versions on other systems like RE4 as better on the gamecube. This was about where games started being ported to different systems in versions that werent drastically different.

on what planet is the snes better at jrpgs than the ps2
ps2 had legitimately 5-10x more of them
just admit you really really like chrono trigger or earthbound

One could argue while the ps2 had more the best SNES Jrpgs outclassed the best PS2 rpgs.

SNES.

That, PS2 and 360 are definitely the best though.

By the time PS4 and XB1 came out, consoles pretty much lost their novelty. So while those also have good libraries, I don't think it means as much as consoles before them.

Yeah, the GameCube and Xbox were more powerful.

It was kinda cool how SNES and Genesis versions of games were often totally different.

I mean I'm not big on the genre like I used to be but in general the biggest jrpgs on the SNES as well as the first playstation tend to be more highly regarded than the ones on the ps2. Im having a brain fart trying to think of hugely revered ps2 jrpgs other than FF 10 and DQ 8.

So many games on the NES have artificial difficulty only reason why it's so low.

Lol, I was also going to mention classics like LttP, Super Metroid, Mega Man X/X2, and Super Mario World/Kart, but my main gripe with the PS2 had always been the lack of traditional JRPGs.

While I enjoyed the growing genre of action-jrpgs (Dark Cloud, Kingdom Hearts, Okami, etc), I always felt that the PS2 had a very distinct lack of traditional JRPGs compared to the PS1. Nowhere near as big a drought as the PS3, but it was enough to make me notice the direction things were going in.

Like I said, it's a really close call, but having FF4-6, Dragon Quest 4-6, Lufia, Super Mario rpg, Breath of Fire, and Chrono Trigger were enough to push it over the edge for me.

It's not nearly as good as the PS2 and just comes from the super dated 64-bit generation of consoles

I consider the N64 to be Nintendo's worst main console

I mean ps1 had some great games, and some of them still look great. A lot of ps2 games look great but a lot also look really dated as well tbf.

The N64 just didnt have a very big library.

That's not even a remotely uncommon opinion lmao. Most people think the PS2 is a much better console. A lot of people think it's the best console

The PS2 ruled, tarnishing the PS1s enormous legacy was your gaffe

Not quite

The top SNES games still hold up just fine because they were the best that 2D had to offer

64-bit was new. Many of those games have barren worlds and just feel weird to play in modern times. Though I still enjoy the PS FFs

Shadow of the collosus has a pretty barren world :)

Super Nintendo has most of the greatest, most ambitious games of all time.

PS2 was all quantity no quality bullshit and the start of "cinematic gaming" cancer. Not to mention I've never encountered a pre-slim model that didn't have some kind of major malfunction.

My opinions not as harsh but on the subject of "cinematic cancer" the ps2 does feel like where a lot of my least favorite trends started to come into fruition which might be why I'm slightly biased against the system. I could agree it feels quantity over quality but I'd never say there was no quality. Love me some Ratchet and Sly Cooper <3
