I don't mean, like, the controls... I'm a little bit into the start, the Aurora already exploded as part of the tutorial and I have to make a rad suit next and gather sulfur and whatnot;

That's all basic survival game stuff, same thing with Don't Starve or Minecraft

...

Thing is.... in such games where survival is the goal I can usually just get the food and then turn the game off 'cuz that's how you survive... in Minecraft where people are building elaborate homes and traps and castles I have a little hole with a fish farm and no doors since that's all you need to live forever.

So, back to Subnautica - I can just keep stabbing fish and eating them... so, .... I beat the game, right?

Your goal in Subnautica is actually to get off the planet though, not just to avoid dying.

Swim around.
Break rocks.
Don't get stuck in caves.
Surface for air.
Break more rocks.
Surface for air again.
Craft batteries.
Craft a knife.
Craft a rebreather.
Craft better air tanks.
Craft flippers.
Craft a Seaglide.
Craft a repair tool.
Fix up your escape pod.
Craft a scanner.
Swim around.
Scan wreckage for blueprints.
Build a base that has a scanner room to locate resources better.
Build more bases to place scanner rooms in other areas.
Craft beacons to remember where your bases are.
Scan more wreckage for more blueprints.
Upgrade all your stuff.
Did you make a Seamoth yet?
Oh yeah, stock up on supplies and go explore the Aurora.
Make a Prawn suit.
Craft upgrades so you can go deeper.
Did you make a Colossus yet? You'll need that to craft something later on.
Find an entrance to the Lost River.
Find an entrance to the Inactive Lava Zone.
Find an entrance to the Lava Lakes.
Alien stuff.
Go back to the Aurora and enter that locked room.
Build a rocket.
Leave the planet.

Dumb question, but it was merely a shower thought...

...

How do deep sea divers move at all? I mean, there's like 10 tons of water directly on their backs

theres a lot more pressure at that depth but they arent bearing the weight of water above them, that gets spread out to the sea floor

if that werent the case people would start to be crushed if they went just a few feet below water, cause its heavy af

Water pressure is uniform per depth. Let's say someone is 100 feet deep. They should experience a pressure of about 45 psi. That pressure is all around them. If they are just moving laterally at the same depth the 45 pounds they are pushing against to move forward is also pushing on them from behind. The opposite directions cancel out so they are only moving the weight of their own body. Really no different than air pressure on land. But if they want to sink or rise then they only have to overcome the difference of the psi at the 2 depths. Additionally it's not just a mater of how many pounds you can move but also the period of time you are moving it.

This. Also, if you kill too many fish in an area, you can actually completely depopulate that area of fish.

It's definitely a game you should go into as blind as possible.

I built a base with a 6 level tower. The first 5 were habitats filled with reginalds and the top level was wall to wall water purifiers.

At one point I was asking myself how the heck do I get stalker teeth. A few hours later I had a cabinet full of them.
