The political crisis started with protest against Morales. He tried to get rid of term limits with a referendum, which voters rejected. Then he got the courts to declare term limits a "human rights violation" which made him even less popular. Even people from within his own party had turned against him by the time of the election. There was no coup, Anez was just the next in line for succession after multiple resignations. A fair election was then held which MAS won.

I know this is hard for white suburban leftist in the US to understand, but Bolivians can oppose Morales' power grab while still supporting his party. Not everyone has a fetish for dictators like you do.
