Xiaolin Showdown put up a courageous fight against Tom and Jerry, but couldn't score a second huge upset. Johnny Bravo took down Korra, while Yu-Gi-Oh posted another strong win against Arthur and could be going into its matchup with Chip 'n Dale as a favorite despite the lower seed. Bojack Horseman had another high seed but another early exit.

Chip and Dale has always been a solid midcard show, I think it even got to the sweet sixteen one time. I was never a fan but people here seem to like it a decent amount.

Yu Yu Hakusho managed to get a mid-match burst that proved to be the difference, while Rocko's Modern Life and Madoka Magica went down to the wire in one of the best matches of the tournament to date. Steins;Gate took down fellow anime Paranoia Agent, while Adventure Time got the strongest win of the day, beating Clone High fairly comfortably.

Mystery Inc. got the biggest rout of the day with a big win over The Boondocks, and looks to avenge the original Scooby Doo, which got surprisingly close to taking out Death Note.

The Magic School Bus beat Samurai Jack in the tiebreaker.

18 years after the most controversial match in tournament history, the 2002 quarterfinal between Neon Genesis Evangelion and Dragonball Z, we had a rematch, and while there wasn't as much controversy, the match was even closer, with Evangelion winning over DBZ again by a single vote. In the only rout of the day, Teen Titans stomped Sailor Moon, while Justice League Unlimited beat Jojo's Bizarre Adventure in a squeaker and Hey Arnold put up a courageous fight but lost to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

The final 32 is set. We'll take the day off, and the next day of matches will start tomorrow morning.

Gravity Falls and Batman both took down their opponents easily, setting up what we pretty much expected would be the regional final there. Looney Tunes beat Futurama in an instant classic, showing how beloved it still is and setting up a matchup with its spiritual successor for a spot in the Elite Eight.

Avatar continues its dominating run with a blowout of Attack On Titan, and could be the show to beat as it does battle with Courage in the regional final. Over The Garden Wall took down another tough show and now gets a juicy Sweet Sixteen matchup with fellow 2010s Cartoon Network creepy hit in Mystery Incorporated, which took down Death Note in a mild upset.

Over The Garden wall is 4-1 lifetime in these tournaments, including wins over Pinky and the Brain and X-Men, with its only loss being a narrow one to Dragonball Z in 2018. It has legit tournament strength and should probably be considered the favorite in its match against Mystery Inc.

Yu-Gi-Oh pulled yet another upset, taking down Tom and Jerry and extending its Cinderella run into the Elite Eight, where it's guaranteed to face another anime, whichever wins today's tiebreaker.

Meanwhile, Teen Titans upset Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and now hopes to score an even bigger upset in its second Elite Eight appearance.

So among the Elite Eight, we've got three distinct tiers of competitors left.

Tier 1:
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Batman: The Animated Series
The Simpsons

All three of these shows have won the tournament at least once, and all three appear frequently in the quarterfinals, reaching it just about every year they've been in the tournament with a few exceptions. Batman is the defending champion, but all three got to the quarterfinals in 2018.

Tier 2:
Animaniacs
Teen Titans

Animaniacs is what would probably considered a "low elite", while Teen Titans is a very high midcarder. Both shows have been to the quarterfinals at least once, though IIRC, neither has ever been to the semifinals (maybe Animaniacs has once? Not sure). Usually these shows at least make the third round, get high seeds and generally beat 90% of the other shows in this tournament, though Teen Titans' win over Brotherhood is considered an upset because of how well that show's been doing recently.

Tier 3:
Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated
Steins;Gate
Yu-Gi-Oh

All three of these shows have been in the tournament before, and IIRC they've all been to the third round, but I think that's the furthest they've been before their dream runs in this tournament. Mystery Inc. and Steins;Gate were considered solid midcarders before this tournament but not much more, while Yu-Gi-Oh was actually a low midcarder, and its run this deep comes as a major shock.

Animaniacs takes full advantage of its Hulu reboot launch to knock off the defending champ and advance to the Final Four, where it will battle Yu-Gi-Oh, which kept fellow anime Cinderella Steins;Gate at arm's length the entire match to win a tight victory.

It was all right, but Simpsons when it was good was some of the best tv ever, and Simpsons was good longer than Teen Titans existed.
