yeah they're cheap and yeah the image quality is good/fine.

but they will break.

mine has 2 issues right now.

1) if fast start is enabled, it merely puts the TV into a low powered state (sleep) when you hit the off button, so it doesn't have to do a complete boot when you turn it on.

but 9 times out of 10 when you go to turn it back on, it bugs out and doesn't turn the backlight on. so you get a black screen (if you turn out all your lights you can see a dim dim dim image of what should be on your tv). unplugging the tv is the only fix. only solution online right now is just dont use fast start

2) some weird sharpness/saturation issue when you turn the tv off and back on. if you turn the tv off, i dont think it completely powers off. it just goes into a sleep mode first before shutting down. if you turn it back on in that time, your image look likes you cranked the sharpness up to 100 and contrast and saturation up to 100. it looks like poop. nothing fixes this except, you guessed it, unplugging the tv.

if you spent a lot of money on a TCL tv, i hope its still under warranty or i hope these issues don't affect you because TCL seems to be aware of the issue, and dont care to fix it besides telling you to restart the tv like i said.

if you need a cheap tv get a hisense. ive had my hisense for about a year now and haven't had these issues.

To be fair just because your specific model in 2017 had issues (anecdotal evidence) does not mean a TCL 2020 model will be subject to the same issues.

I've had my TCL for about 5 months now with no problems. My previous RCA television had frequent issues where it wouldn't turn on and had to be unplugged and plugged back in to get it to (maybe) turn on again.

(was expecting this topic to be about not supporting Chinese companies in general)

Two TCL TVs in the last 5 years, no problems with either of them.

The remotes are trash too. And the replacement app when the remote doesn't work is very unreliable. But other than that, it performs well.

The remotes are great, just a few buttons and that's it. None of the overcomplicated crap from yesteryear with a million buttons and remotes trying to figure out what does what

The only grievance I have though is that the four "quick" app buttons aren't customizable as far as I know. Mine are like Netflix, Amazon, Sling, and something else. I only have Netflix out of those four, but I should be able to customize them to Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and HBOMax (whenever that comes out lol)

I just stick with Samsung. I get wanting a large tv at a cheaper price and all but if its gonna shit the bed at the 3-5 year mark you might as well have just spent the extra few hundred.

I have three 65" series 6 TCLs in my house. Bought them all just under 3 years ago. Haven't had a single issue with any of them, other than the remotes being so easy to lose lol.

Yeah whenever I buy a TV I spend more to make sure I get a good brand with quality parts. It was that time just last month for me and I got an LG CX, huge upgrade in picture for me, since I didn't have a 4k capable TV before that, or HDR.
