The Patriots had another player test positive this morning, so the Broncos-Patriots game that had originally been scheduled for today, that had already been moved to Monday night, has now been moved to next Sunday (18th).

The Patriots had a bye next week, but the Broncos did not (their bye is November 1st), so now the Broncos-Dolphins game next Sunday has to be rescheduled as well (Miami's bye is not scheduled until November 22nd).

The Titans also had a staffer test positive this morning which means the Titans-Bills game, that had already been moved to Tuesday night, is also now probably going to have to be moved as well.

But again, they are still forcing these teams to play.

At this point the NFL is honestly risking having to completely shut down in two weeks.

Shouldnt have been a season to begin with. With that many players in differeny places with no bubble it was bound to happen. But all the NFL cares about is money, and it shows.

best answer: delay the season indefinitely
second best answer: cancel the season
third best answer: add a week after 8 or 9, and another after 17 for any games that need to be delayed.
fourth best answer: add just the week after 17
...

some large number best answer: whatever the fuck the nfl is actually doing right now.

Keep in mind the NFL literally had months to come up with a better plan than "We're going to start playing tetris with the schedule after the first game has to be delayed".

Starting to think that supposed contingency plan of them having all the hotels in Tampa booked until March isn't actually true.

The NFL didn't even step back and think "Hmm, maybe we should add a couple of weeks to the season in case we need to start moving games around."

Or, if they did, someone immediately told that person to stfu because there's no way an NFL team, with dozens of members and no way to monitor them outside of work, will face a COVID outbreak.

Apparently the Patriots were considering refusing to play the game tomorrow night anyways even before the positive test this morning. The NFL is going to have a fucking mutiny on its hands.

I like how the local news reported the other day that the Bills would rather their Titans game go on and not be forfeited because they don't get paid if the game doesn't actually happen. Like great fucking priorities there, assholes.

Maybe I would consider it if I wasn't getting 15 more hundreds of thousands of dollars for playing all the other games during the season

Every player had the option to not play this year, correct? And they can stop playing at any time, correct?

I think its the opposite, NFL is busy as shit having to enforce all these rules they have, testing everyone non stop, having to move games around, just all types of stuff. They need congratulations on how hard theyre working.

Buccaneers Dolphins couple years back had to move to a later date, Bucs wound up playing 16 straight games. Saints had to move during Katrina. Things happen and things have to move. It literally happens just about every year.

Didn't like half the Titans team test positive? So far it is just two Patriots. Key players sure, but you can play without two guys. Although "play" is loosely used when it comes to the backup QBs.

The Titans definitively broke protocol and held illegal practices.

So far nothing like that has come out of NE

The games aren't being delayed because there are players sick. It's because they don't know how many MORE people are contagious but not showing up yet.

I.e. if the Titans were guaranteed no new cases they'd have to play regardless of how many people were out.

Yeah they both made close contact maskless.

NFLers are dumb as bricks tho, possibly sports-wide so I can't expect them to be responsible about this.

The idea that they couldnt have gone in a bubble is stupid as hell. They have enough money they could rent out whole hotels to house players and their families.

There a lot of reasons why this is less feasible for the NFL than NBA
1. Rosters are significantly larger; instead of 12 players per team there are 50
2. The NBA could cut down to 24 or so teams for its bubble, and more than half of those were gone within two months. The NFL season is four months long.
3. 32 teams need not just places to play, but places to practice during the week. Football fields being the size they are in comparison to basketball courts, you'd have a real hard time finding a bubble with suitable venues.
4. Given the NFLs viewership and the way networks and their affiliates rely on that money, I don't think they'd have been accommodating to having games on weekday afternoons the way the NBA and NHL did. You've gotta squeeze 16 games a week in; that's tricky if you only have one stadium for then to play in.

So, rough estimate, 55 players per team and 32 teams. So at least 1,760 people. Which isnt including staff and personnel, and the families like you mentioned.

A bubble would in no way ever work for the nfl.
