This is an original idea I came up with but since I keep getting banned from reddit I am posting it here instead. This is the idea: Say you have a computer program that you want to recognize ducks. The standard approach is that you just train it on lots of duck pictures of the same resolution. But the fact that all these pictures are the same resolution is also a weakness because it doesn't generalize to higher or lower resolutions. If you want to generalize it you need as many resolutions as possible. So for example 1x1, 2x2, .... 1000x1000 .... n x n pictures of ducks. Also if you want to generalize it to 3 dimensions you will need a way of converting n x n pictures to n x n x n pictures. This may work for other file types too but you need a way of compressing them that doesn't cause the file to be corrupted.

Well I guess this is sort of similar but I think you have to do more than just take half the resolution each time. If you have a 1000 x 1000 image you have to look at all the numbers below 1000. If you did that it wouldn't be in the shape of a pyramid

Might want to google what a convolutional neural network is and try understanding it beyond MNIST
