Instead of rewriting an old movie entirely, they'll just CGI an old hand-drawn animated movie scene for scene, and clean up the original audio. Like how the Spyro remake looks so much better than the original PS1 game, but is still the same game.

Or remake an old TV show as a movie. Imagine the old Timon and Pumbaa with the CGI of the recent Lion King movie. There wouldn't be opening and credits between each 'episode' though.
