My one complaint as a kid playing X-Wing vs Tie Fighter was that the Star Destroyers were way too small, but I figured it was just a byproduct of technical limitations. With Squadrons being a spiritual successor / revival of the old lucasarts games I figured that particular issue would be resolved thanks to 2020 technology, but they're practically the same size.

Are star destroyers just way smaller than I'm remembering, or are they only like 20% the size they should be in the game?

You are correct, but it's one of those things where if they scaled it properly the Star Destoyer would take up the majority of the map.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd be stoked for a "map" that just basically just a fight around a single star destroyer. I always assumed any attempt at a modern death star trench run would be more or less the same (a map that in its entirety is like 5% of the Death Star's surface)

Think of them as the Victory class ones.
