right now my set up is
Bedroom: Modem->Ethernet line to living room>wireless router w/switch to other devices.

problem is i have a tv i want to hook up to the ethernet. i dont want to have to run another wire from the living room to the bedroom again

will this work?

Bedroom: Modem> Bedroom switch> ethernet to living room> wireless router

then out of that switch i could run a cable in the room to the TV.
would having a switch before the router mess it up?
or would i just need ot move my wireless router into the bedroom?

You will need to move your router since your modem is only going to give out one IP address.

Yeah, most likely your router would take up the only IP address your ISP will give you. You would definitely want to have all of your home devices connected behind the router.

You could just add the switch behind the router and then connect your TV with a shorter cable.

ok thanks.

i kinda dont want to have to run more cables out of the room because i havent them in a cable raceway that spans like, the entire length of my living room, up and around doors, around corners. if i want to put another cable in i gotta take out all the furniture covering them up lol.

right now my tv is on a wireless 5ghz network... which is literally on the opposite side of the wall of my router.

it just bothers me!

What's making you want to put your TV on an ethernet connection?

OCD mainly lmao.

well okay, i want to stream steam games to my tv. i have a steam link that i can use, otherwise id have to side load it onto my firetv and im not sure how well thatll work.

being a HARDCORE PRO GAMER i can notice things like latency and when i use it over wifi its kinda laggy.

so i dunno. but like i said, its a 5ghz wifi network right on the opposite side of the wall the routers at. couldnt be THAT bad?

Depends on what's in the wall, really. I would try downloading an app on your phone like Wifi Analyzer or Aruba Utilities that will show you the signal strength you're getting in the area of your TV.

Just do Modem > wireless router > ethernet to living room > put switch in living room

I may do that but I realize that I have like 15 things on this wifi network and if I move the router the signal strength would tank

Maybe another router..
