So I Googled what the hell "open proxy" means, and found this...

Many Internet routers are vulnerable to various attacks. Routers often run Linux, and Linux is more than capable of hosting a relay or proxy. (A proxy is a kind of relay for internet traffic.)

Vulnerable? Various attacks? Okay, that doesn't sound very good...

An open relay is just a relay that isn't protected with authentication.

Not protected, that doesn't sound good either.

It may or may not be open, though, if it's just being used by a black hat hacker group to attempt to hack servers.

That sounds even worse.

Your IP address could end up on an open proxy list simply because hundreds of people are using it to hide their location.

What?! Hundreds of people? Hiding their location??

Alternatively, a computer behind your router could be compromised.

Also not good! Every single sentence in this thing!

A common pattern is for hackers to take over a computer and then use it to attack other computers. (Or to attack services like Instagram.)

Are you kidding me? This is getting worse and worse!

But that's not the worst of it. If either of these scenarios are accurate, those same hackers may take part in criminal activity that rises to the attention of the police and/or FBI.

So, every single sentence from that thing I read kept getting worse. Now I have to try and figure out how to fix this, if possible.

Essentially a VPN or Virtual Private Network masks your IP for the sake of privacy, especially if looking to do illegal activities. It provides people with anonymity on the internet.

It's very likely that if you use a VPN yourself, this will resolve the issue. Also if you aren't using a respectable anti-virus with firewall, you need to.
