Welcome to the King of Fighters 2020 (NOT MERCS) Simulated Character Battle Tournament!

The game is simple. The two* listed characters are placed in an (imaginary) location with a variety of (imaginary) environments, kind of like a picture in a child's schoolbook that describes different types of geological features. Within a ten mile radius, there is an (imaginary) urban downtown, exurbs, plains, snow-clad mountains at the edge, dry plains, etc. Fighters start wherever is most appropriate for them, but feel increasingly compelled to seek out their opponent and fight. Strong-willed fighters can try to hold out in their chosen environment for longer... eventually, all will succumb and actively search for the other to battle.

To participate, just vote in bold for whichever character you believe will win. Giving reasoning is optional, but please be polite and read what others have said and carefully make your decision. I'll ping the nominators (they can opt out) to give arguments if they wish.

Kind of amusing matchup considering Spinel references Sonic and Tails in her last appearance doing the Sonic run and Tails esque flying

So I am assuming this is base game Shadow only right because comic Shadow is stupid and would be a He Man esque placement here with the stuff he gets up to.

I think my issue here is exactly how tanky base Shadow is.

Spinel is very strong, casually breaking stone with a punch, can jump absurdly high going to the top of her doomsday device from ground level and coil springing herself above the clouds, shaking the ground with her beatdown on Steven, and she broke this fucking thing

She is deceptively fast between her toonforce style movements, springing, stretching etc.

She is very durable and has a lot of utility (again with her cartoon style movements). She can stretch her eyes to make a "telescope", she can slow fall with Tails style leg spin, flatten herself and zigzag rapidly along the ground, sonic spin, beyblade style attack etc etc. Her stretching was such that she was capable of wrapping a group of kaiju sized people (and pretty quickly which could be a point in her stretching speed).

I don't exactly recall how much base Shadow can take before being winded. Best comparison I can find is him getting KO'd by a Sonic boost and being knocked on his ass by Infinite's small explosion and I am pretty sure Spinel is backing more strength from the Injector feat

Of course if Super Shadow is allowed then he wins but I forget if he was or not.

Shadow does obviously have the big "survived orbital re-entry" feat under his belt for durability. Sure, that took him out of commission for a while, but it was after he'd used up all of his chaos energy with Sonic to stop ARK, so Super Shadow can be taken out of the equation. He does also have no-selling four GUN soldiers shooting at him from less than 10 meters with assault rifles simultaneously to release a Chaos Blast, which is also base form Shadow.

How does Spinel deal with teleporting? Even base Shadow has short-range teleport spam on the table, as well as healing his molecules with chaos energy and tearing a hole in space with Chaos Rift. I'm more just trying to see how Spinel gets more than one hit on Shadow at a time, something that he can pretty easily reciprocate whilst building up chaos power. Or just releasing his inhibitor rings, which let him go even with an infinitely spawning army of Mephileses (Mephilii?) for a while.

I didn't really chalk Mephiles up as being strong durability wise (though it has been awhile). Just more that he could make tons of doubles of himself but said doubles could be popped easily. Also the orbital re-entry thing was while he was Super Shadow so I wouldn't put that to base Shadow's durability (who was KO'd by base sonic dash)

As for teleporting she could potentially tie him up or grab him and thrash him around. I don't think he has shown to be able to warp while grabbed has he? Alternatively she can just hit him regularly as he doesn't spam it that much regularly and has been tagged before so between her craziness, unconventional fighting, and toonforce style physics and shenanigans (vanishing and reappearing right behind Amethyst) she is likely going to hit him regardless.
