Ah, another great one. You're in for a treat then, since Angela's story is also extremely fascinating. Both of those episodes were the highlight of the series for me, and that series set an extremely high standard to begin with.

i thought i liked the movie retcon to the big event because i thought the squid thing was so dumb

but this series is causing me to reconsider and appreciate it more.

I don't want to derail the topic prematurely but quite frankly, her episode is one of the worst IMO! It's very well directed but doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

I just immediately dismissed it when I heard about it as another opportunity to milk a damn good book.

The show is incredibly good, way better than it has any right to be. It's so clear that they love the book and want to continue its themes and philosophy in the modern age. It feels so radical and so appropriate at the same time. I would recommend anyone to read the book just so they can watch the show tbh (the book is great anyways). You absolutely cannot watch the show without the book.

The last half of the show is a series of mind blowers which is great, but honestly I prefer the first half. Getting to know the new characters and the world building and the small town feel and mysteries is really nice.

The show honestly feels like a full on natural continuation of the book. No concessions, nothing held back, nothing forced.

It's incredible.

7 was good. the twist is nuts. but overall the episode is certainly not on the same level as 6.

like the twists won't mean anything to you at all

As much hate as the movie gets it's honestly a pretty good representation of the book. I think the TV show would not be very good to someone who was not at least familiar with the plot of the book. But maybe it is! I don't know

I would actually be okay with more, depending on how it was positioned and when and where, but I do greatly appreciate that Lindelof was very open about being finished. I think Watchmen is a big universe, and you could tell a very different story here, if you wanted. Before Watchmen, for example, is often criticized, but there are some seriously great little stories in that anthology. Similarly, Marionette and Mime are fantastic characters that we'd never get without Geoff Johns pushing Watchmen into the DC Multiverse.

Watching the movie is fine since it's almost an exact copy of the book. You do miss some great thematic parallels like the media-within-media, and references to things like the newspaper stand and the squid.

Except the movie for some reason glorifies the violence

And also the twist is different and will confuse you if you treat the movie as the same universe as the show

I'd assume that was Zach Snyder.
