It's rarely done right, it needs to be salt cured to suck all the slime out, and then fried with breading to be edible, but at that point you lost most of any kind of nutritional value for a subpar fried food.

It's popular in the south and I hate it.

Had it for the first time few months ato, albeit it came frozen in a bag. But I really like it. But o ly used it in stews, good way to make it thicker, can cook for long without turning to mush and absorbs flavor.

I wanna try fresh but cant get it here.

It's commonly grown fresh in the South, and it's almost like aloe level of slimy when fresh. Maybe freezing it changes the texture, but the overall flavor just reminds me of the smell of cut grass.

I'm a part-time farmer and I grow about 40 varieties of crops each year, I sell some at the farmer's market and I trade some within the community. This is the only vegetable I grow that I don't eat at all.

I dunno, when thawed its quite slimy, but its soft like veggies get, not mushy however. And the flavor sounds right, maybe not as strong grass-flavor but I liked it. I dont mind the slimyness it was an interesting texture, tho it dissapeared in the stew.

Lots of people like it, it's common here in stews and gumbo also. I'm not much a fan of a lot of mushrooms either, so it could be a texture thing with me for sure.

Fried okra is great...when it's on a plate next to country fried steak and some form of potatoes, and also covered in country gravy. Only time I eat it.

I eat them a couple times a month, a little butter and garlic in a frying pan, pretty damn good veggie.

I don't know what shoving a mushroom in a peach is gonna do, but you present a legitimate argument here.
