i drink to escape the misery that is my life. but i can't keep doing it. if im going to move forward with my life i need to stop making these same mistakes over and over.

last week i managed to drink 2 bottles of vodka by myself. thats up from the 1 i usually do. oh and i had like 4 beers one night.

im going to drink myself into an early grave if i dont stop.

how do i stop

i stopped and it was probably the best thing i did for myself. Still drink socially but i stopped doing the whole "after work" thing...Just remember that the problems you're escaping still exist, drinking might feel good for a few hours but if you keep doing it its only going to exacerbate those problems.

Check out a book called "This Naked Life" by Annie Grace. That helped me a lot, but I also went to AA for a while in the beginning and that provided a critical foundation, though it quickly lost its usefulness to me. I'm now over a year sober with no real desire to drink.

As cliche as it is, you really do have to take it one day at a time. If you're physically dependent, it's imperative that you seek help from a professional (actually, do that anyway) because withdrawal can be extreme.

how would i know if im physically dependant? i dont think i am. 2 weeks ago i went 4 or 5 days without a drink and i think i was fine. i think thats one of my fears too, ill get physically dependent on it.

you'll know pretty quick. Depending on how much you drink withdrawal symptoms can start within a few hours of your last drink. at first they'll be fairly tame, just uncomfortable but the more ou put your body through it the more difficult they'll become. they can result in seizures, loss of balance...its all bad.

I'd say 2 bottles in a week is a strong indicator. And a very common theme with alcoholics is the phrase "I dont think am". You are. Seek treatment.

i just dont know how to get it.

but i mean, its just another short term solution to a bigger issue.
