The justice system is broken. Race and wealth have a huge impact on how the system processes a person. The inherent racism and the impact of wealth are well documented and impact everything from street interactions with LEOs to sentencing and even the death penalty. The system is broken and time after time we get examples of that. People get upset and angry when these examples show up which makes sense. What doesn't make sense is how the anger is being channeled towards mob justice and destruction.

Today we see lots of statements based on emotion --

It's fucking bullshit, people will make their voices heard tonight. I hope it's worth protecting murderers after what's going to happen to that city in the next few weeks.

The only justice you will ever get against the cops is what you take yourself.

Burn the city down, I'm not going to lose sleep over it as the riots are certainly justify in this case. No justice, no peace.

I don't mean to call out these people, there are lots of statements like these, they are just good examples of emotional reactions calling for extreme responses. Is this really the system you want? One that responds based on emotion? Hasn't history taught us to be better? Isn't that exactly what our founders were trying to get away from?

The Breonna Taylor case was reviewed by a special prosecutor (the AG). That person and his team looked over tons of evidence that mostly isn't available to the public at this time. They made a decision based on the facts as they are applied to state law and have chosen to indict an officer. The facts seem different than what most people are repeating here today but that is because the public doesn't have all the information and isn't conducting an investigation.

It is understandable that people are unhappy with the result because they feel, emotionally, it should be different, but think about the failure in this system. The failure isn't in what the AG did. It seems a lot of people feel the failure is how the law treats the police. If that is true, the solution isn't to burn the city down, or lock up all the cops up. What will that solve? How will that make things better? The most reasonable solution is to change the state law to make it so when these facts are applied to situations like this you end up with a different result. Wouldn't that be more just than relying on mob justice and destruction?

No. Our founders were trying to establish their own nation separate from Great Britain where they got to be the ones with a monopoly on force and accumulate the wealth.

Nothing about America has ever been founded based on what is right, and that only continues to be true with the court's decision today

Cops have been doing this shit forever. Asking people to continue to accept a system that allows the police to murder people with impunity, especially after decades of asking nicely is absurd. People have tried it your way for decades, the government and cops have their chance to do things the easy way. Now it's time for something else.

If you really look at history, not even world history but just our own, youll see that pretty much everything youve said is wrong. This unjust system will likely lead to another violent cycle just like the many violent cycles weve had in the past.

pretending like writing to our rich state congressmen is gonna change anything is naive. What youll see is people doing that, as they have, and the congressmen ignoring them, as they have, and people hitting that fuck it point, at which point, history will again repeat itself.

this is also mostly wrong. At least the focus on force and wealth. That didnt come until the 1800s for wealth, arguably, maybe even the 1900s when it became a huge focus. And for force that didnt start until the 1940s.

TC always argues in bad faith.

Like, for example, TC said they dont want to single people out and yet they could have just quoted people anonymously instead of posting the usernames. If the quotes become contested, then it would be fair to reveal who was quoted.

How is everything I have said wrong?

We have trials and indictment in front of juries for a reason.
We have the right to not self incriminate ourselves for a reason.
The concept of innocent before guilty exists for a reason.

The criminal justice system was created to right the wrongs of a medieval system that operated on the emotions and the will of a few powerful people. Think of the Salem Witch Trials. Emotional responses in the criminal justice system are bad for everyone.

And to be clear, protesting is a viable solution. The people that said writing and responding to politicians by traditional means isn't working are right. There does need to be something different done. But defaulting to "the cops should be locked up" when the facts may not support that isn't the solution. Destroying innocent people's property because you don't like how facts were applied to law isn't the solution and leads to more injustice.

oh thats my mistake. I was thinking about military force and central wealth. Those are more recent changes. Force from law enforcement and wealth by privateers for lack of a better word have absolutely been around since the dawn of the country and far longer than that.

my bad, I was speaking from the federal government which is a bit more messy.

This is a problem for the city. They need to be transparent and make public everything they relied on at some point. It's annoying they won't do it quickly because it could help. Transparency is a great motivator for keeping public officials in line. It's why so many dictators don't do. Look at the Trump admin for example. It shouldn't be allowed.

Ah yeah, no worries. I was indeed referring to the exertion of force levied against underprivileged or marginalized internal groups by law enforcement or wealthy elites

But yeah, the problem has only gotten worse in recent times, since a centralized police force is such an easy tool for the state to utilize with impunity
