Apply anyway.

Because like 2/3rds of every Indeed Applicant I have ever talked to will agree to an interview then just not show up or ever respond again. So I end up hiring one of the few people half-qualified who actually showed up.

I remember seeing a LinkedIn post about a guy whose job application was rejected for not having 5 years of experience in a certain software. He only had about 2 years of experience to list... as the creator of that software. He did it to prove how ridiculous job requirements have become to the point they no longer account for actual experience, just arbitrary amounts of time spend doing a job or using a product (regardless of how good you actually are at it).

Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy.

If your industry has recruiters or job finders, use those instead.

Sometimes they go hand in hand with Indeed. I have my profile filled out and recruiters constantly message me with job offers. They use Indeed to find employees just as much as we use it to find jobs.

What they're really looking for is time travelers to give them a heads up on what to invest in over the next five years.

I demonstrated things I brought to the table that made up for my lack of professional experience in the field

Btw this is what cover letters are for.

what I heard when I was applying from interviewers was that cover letters are extremely important, and that my cover letter was what had them bring me in for an interview. I actually had two job offers when I took the one I currently have, both of them asking for more experience than what I actually had

your cover letter should be well written and present a succinct case for why you want the job, why you would be good for it even if you dont match the exact qualifications, and what your career goals are with the job.

thats a good reminder.

i have, what i think, is a good cover letter template. i modify it a little whenever i apply for a job but maybe i should take another look at it.
