I picked up the first one, out of curiosity

If she's cancelled, better read the old ones. They got above-average reviews, while the latest was review bombed

The Cuckoo's Calling
(Cormoran Strike #1)
by Robert Galbraith (penname)

A few months ago, she was making "transphobic" comments. According to many. Then she wrote an essay which expanded on the idea, explained part of it... but also doubled down. It wasn't really an apology for the tweets she made, it was explaining the context. In my mind, it cleared up part of the controversy. It explained why she felt the need to say those. However, it was still insisting on another aspect of it (women should menstruate, cross dressers could be men, autism has higher rates of transsexuals... pretty controversial for an a-list celeb to say)

The Harry Potter community is diverse, worldwide. Can't please them all. But the ones who are mad... are probably sworn off her for life. She was cancelled.

And this is her spinoff series... #5 is about a cross-dresser who kills people, in a detective story

And then wrote a book that has the killer dressing up as a woman, to kill other women. A pretty standard stereotype transphobes have of trans people. That they'll touch your children in the bathroom, or kill women etc and get away with it. It is extremely suspect at best, given all her context.

She's also voiced support for other transphobes in the past as well.

Well, that's true. It does seem like poor timing. But she had been already writing the book... didn't just write it after the controversy, it was being written during the controversy. Many people think she wrote it out of spite, it was probably nearly finished and being edited when the Twitter drama happened

after reading this sentence 3 times, i still dont get it
"Speaking as a biological woman, a lot of people in positions of power really need to grow a pair (which is doubtless literally possible, according to the kind of people who argue that clownfish prove humans arent a dimorphic species)."

holy shit this is a badass quote
As Simone de Beauvoir also wrote, without a doubt it is more comfortable to endure blind bondage than to work for ones liberation; the dead, too, are better suited to the earth than the living.

and after finishing the essay, i have deduced that anyone who is angry with JK Rowling over this matter, is simply misunderstanding her
her tweet was poorly worded, for sure
it just seems like people are all upset over semantics
i think many people are still not comprehending the concept of identity
her biggest concern was stopping that political measure which would allow naturally born men (who have not begun transition) to enter a womens locker room. i dont think thats enough to warrant all the outrage im seeing. an inconvenience if youre a transwoman who hasnt begun transition yet, but there are ways to work around that until society chills out.

It's blown out of proportion. I dont think J.K Rowling is a trans hater. People like to use twitter comments to burn people at the stake.

The usual suspects defending transphobia. Pathetic.

Did you know in an earlier installment in this mystery series, a trans woman also appeared and in it she was a criminal and threatened with rape?

We've been saying she's transphobic for years because she's shown time and again she hates trans women and doesn't believe any trans identity is valid. Anyone who misses the forest for the trees is probably the exact same sort who agrees with her views or worse.

Speaking of her views, she picked the pen name of a famous gay conversion doctor. Nothing says she likes gay rights like going by the pen name of a man who tormented LGBT people... And then torturing LGBT people in her books after going on Twitter to explain that she doesn't like trans people.

What's really funny is I head the summery for number two. It is the one people should be upset about.

Seems to me that JK Rowling just wants attention. The first book in this series wasn't selling and no one knew about it until.she revealed she was the writer. Then three more books came out and no one cared. So she started her controversial comments about trans people while writing her book about a cross dressing serial killer. Seems almost intentional so people would care about her detective series no one is reading.

This. tbh its not like Rowling going on a TERF-tangent is new, its just she used to shut up when people got mad at her and this time she decided to double down, and then double down again, and then double down again, and she keeps losing.

Eh, i think she is but i think shes smarter than the average person so shes able to mask her hate.

She isnt going to go full Trump and outright say what she means.

@Cobalt_Wasps clownfish have the capability to switch sex. Taken from Wikipedia:

In a group of anemonefish, a strict dominance hierarchy exists. The largest and most aggressive female is found at the top. Only two anemonefish, a male and a female, in a group reproduce through external fertilization. Anemonefish are sequential hermaphrodites, meaning they develop into males first, and when they mature, they become females. If the female anemonefish is removed from the group, such as by death, one of the largest and most dominant males becomes a female. The remaining males move up a rank in the hierarchy.
Anemonefish lay eggs on any flat surface close to their host anemones. In the wild, anemonefish spawn around the time of the full moon. Depending on the species, they can lay hundreds or thousands of eggs. The male parent guards the eggs until they hatch about 610 days later, typically two hours after dusk.[

The comparison shows how far transgender advocates are willing to to stretch their arguments to support their case to swap sex with gender in all instances in law.

Bigotry is bigotry regardless of why they're being that way. And she's said and liked TERF stuff for years before the novels.

Given these trends exploding and these lax regulations put into place:

The fourth is where things start to get truly personal. Im concerned about the huge explosion in young women wishing to transition and also about the increasing numbers who seem to be detransitioning (returning to their original sex), because they regret taking steps that have, in some cases, altered their bodies irrevocably, and taken away their fertility. Some say they decided to transition after realising they were same-sex attracted, and that transitioning was partly driven by homophobia, either in society or in their families.

Most people probably arent aware I certainly wasnt, until I started researching this issue properly that ten years ago, the majority of people wanting to transition to the opposite sex were male. That ratio has now reversed. The UK has experienced a 4400% increase in girls being referred for transitioning treatment. Autistic girls are hugely overrepresented in their numbers.

The current explosion of trans activism is urging a removal of almost all the robust systems through which candidates for sex reassignment were once required to pass. A man who intends to have no surgery and take no hormones may now secure himself a Gender Recognition Certificate and be a woman in the sight of the law. Many people arent aware of this.

If being critical of the state of affairs in this topic is considered bigoted, then guess I'm bigoted then. No sweat off my back.
