Republican will absolutely push for it. How is it that liberals can't get it through their heads that Republicans don't play by the rules because they don't care. They care about power and that's all that matters.

The problem is Democrats are as corrupt as Republicans except they put on a facade. They can't get votes by saying they'll build a wall.

Yes I do. The Democrats are cautious, not stupid. They're not going to let a dishonestly-stacked court simply thwart their entire agenda. And Republicans fucking around with the courts would give them cover to enact this sort of legislation that they didn't have before.

Before today, I would have said that the Democrat odds for packing the court if they won a clean sweep in November wouldn't be higher than 20%; if McConnell pushes this through, I wouldn't put them lower than 75%. Republicans fucking around with two successive SCOTUS seats hands Democrats all the justification they need and will gin up their base as well. Expect Biden to turn this into a campaign issue if Mitch decides to play hardball.

I have historically been opposed to court packing. It didn't work for Roosevelt, and I still don't think it'll work now, but it's something that pretty much has to be done if Trump puts another toady on the court.

How do you prove a negative? How do you disprove "Oh, the Democrats don't want to play by the rules, they just pretend to do so, it's all a facade?" They didn't use the nuclear option on a supreme court vote. They didn't say, "Oh, Trump will never put Merrick Garland on the table," and thrn yoink away that option.

Republicans blocked FDR on every decision he put through at every branch of government except the executive branch. FDR threatened the anti-Deal Republicans that if they didn't work with him in good faith, he would increase the number of seats in the both the Supreme Court and the federal courts, and pack them with pro-Deal candidates.

The Republicans were terrified of a power brinkmanship between the parties where each administration would do what FDR was suggesting just to get their platform through. This caused them to relent and work with FDR.

So the idea that Schumer could threaten the same when a Democrat gets in office would not be foreign.

Court packing was the only option before RGB died.

Biden was about the only Democrat in the primary that actively opposed court packing or doing anything to flip it back, and CE centrists said that whoever won the primary means Americans agree with that person's policies so... Democrat voters don't think the Supreme Court matters so yall can go back to brunch.

I dont speak for all republicans, but I just want power to stay in the hands of citizens and not the government. That way, it doesnt matter which party is in the Whitehouse.

Court packing was always the only appropriate response to McConnell's cynical move in 2016. All today's news does is strip off the razor-thin veneer of an excuse he gave for denying Garland. Democrats must be willing to rewrite any rule-- and break any unwritten rule-- that stands in their way, then close the door behind them.
