So, most likely I got Covid. Been day 6 of symptoms. Its been very mild at best. Voluntarily, I won't bother getting tested. But how did I get Covid? I haven't left the home literally in over 2 weeks. I probably got it from my wife.

My wife is an ICU nurse. Well, she is what you would call a Nurse Flex. She is basically trained in all departments so she can go to all departments including ICU. These nurses are very high paid (without going into detail, she gets roughly under 200k a year), understandably, to be able to be fluid and maintain knowledge of multiple departments and procedures instead of just one plus they are trained to do transport. Anyway, well over 2 weeks ago she has been called to just stay in ICU. With Covid patients.

So, yes, most likely I got infected by her. And yes, most likely she presented no symptoms. Her immune system is cast iron- she only gets sick about once every 7 years if that. Oh and the majority of her co-workers have already gotten Covid and have recovered and been back on the job 7 days after testing positive (yes... you've read that right).

Now, why won't I get tested? Well, what is the point? My own piece of mind? I don't care really. And I don't want to risk going to the hospital and infecting people in the process. My wife is an ICU nurse, so she can pretty much inform me when I seriously need to go to the hospital, otherwise I just do what I do and stay home. There is no point whether or not in knowing if I am positive. I already told her she should be tested because I am presenting symptoms and she tells me that's not how it works. SHE needs to present symptoms to be tested. Great, huh?

Now, on to her job. Currently the ICU is separated into zones. Covid ICU patients are separated by 2 zones. Those that aren't dying yet and those that will most likely not recover. She is taking care of the latter. She is Nurse Death. Basically everyone on her watch is DNR. And she tells me nearly everyone is elderly. Some younger ones (40s-50s) are obese. She has not seen one non-obese young person. Yes, younger people can get severe symptoms, but none so far as come into her death zone. And she's taken care of countless people.

So there you have. That is my anecdotal first hand view of Covid and through the eyes of my wife who is on the frontlines of one of the heaviest hit states (I won't say which state- but it was the very first state to get Covid- hey, I still have some plausible deniability with that statement but you should know which state it is by that statement).

TL;DR: I probably have covid. Symptoms are mild. My wife probably gave it to me. No symptoms. Most of her co-workers had it. Mild symptoms. Everyone she takes care of that will most likely die of Covid to date has all been either elderly or obese. The younger covid patients who are in ICU haven't reached the point where she takes care of them (nurse death). She will be on week 3 of this.

AMA if you want, no clue how often I will check this topic.

Mm, and these lives are still worth saving at the cost of... wearing a mask. Not sure why this is difficult for some people (not you, OP).

good chunk of "moderate" cases dont make it past the reception desk. they're told to go to a testing site and to come back when they cant breathe.

note the "" around moderate. because moderate leaves you in bed for 2 weeks and comes with a much higher risk of long term damage.

There's alot more to preventing covid spread than a mask. Social distancing is key and limiting massive gatherings. Air circulation in indoor areas I believe is also a big factor. You can still potentially get covid with masks if social distancing isn't met. Not to mention masks are completely useless if people handle them incorrectly (touching them and not washing their hands, pulling it down over their nose etc) which alot of people are doing.

True, but some people are violently opposed to even doing the bare minimum (aka wearing a mask).
