Ggs. I was trying to showcase how broken the thunder spike can be but it's hard to get against non linear recoveries. And Yoshi can just double jump armor through it most of the time. I was getting it a lot against my girlfriend's Cloud offline.

Anyone started trying to master the new instant double jump tech? I probably will be trying to as its main purpose is combo extension so Falcon benefits immensely. It's a 4 frame input window which is timing reminiscent of stuff like Melee Fox waveshining so I imagine it's pretty hard

I also see people saying stuff like it makes up air to rest a true combo for Puff. Probably almost every character benefits from this, the only one that I guess definitely doesn't is Little Mac

ZSS' were using this (probably not directly known that it was a tech) with up air bridges. Certain bridges you have to nail with an instant double jump. That being said, now that's it's an established tech, I'm sure people will come up with some wild combos.

i'm able to do it in the frame by frame mode, but can't do it normally. literally a frame perfect move. dunno how it's competitively viable when it requires such frame perfect precision - but maybe top players are able to pull it up. speedrunners can do frame perfect stuff.

faced maximu$ round 1, a Link player. game 1 got nearly 3 stocked. game 2 i think i performed better, but was a two stock in his favor. i noticed he was very good with timing his moves. i would try to backair / forwardair / nair him and he always knew the exact perfect time to hit back, so that it would override my move. dunno if i'm explaining that correctly. also i forgot to save the games, so i won't be able to rewatch them. but he did offer some advice, which i greatly appreciate. he was a nice guy. i have a really bad habit of grabbing way too much. i need to stop doing that. also, he made the arena password 69 lmao.

I think I can do it with just one button but I can't do it with the shoulder button. I guess I would need to learn to do it with the shoulder button if I wanted to IDJ attack cancels.

round 2 i fought pacpolka (Pac-Man player). i was super nervous about this MU. i have used pac-man before so i at least have a general understanding of the character...but i know that doesnt mean jack, because pac-man is a super advanced character.

holy fuck he was insanely good. game 1 i figured he would run back and charge up his fruit (thats what i would have done), so my plan was to be extremely offensive and get a fast hit as soon as the game started. but nope, this dude was a VERY aggressive pac-man. he got an early stock lead from a good forward smash read and i was already in the backseat seconds in the game. like with maximu$, his attacks were well timed. i can't explain it, he just always managed to get his hits over mine, and won pretty much every exchange. with that said, i think i did pretty well game 1, considering i was fighting a cracked pac-man. 2 stock in his favor.

game 2 i performed even worse. i kept making stupid plays and he punished me with strong f-smashes. easy 3 stock in his favor. one thing i'll mention about his playstyle is he did not rely that much on his items. he was an extremely aggressive pac-man that just used his normal attacks. it was cool to see, even if i was the one that was getting my ass kicked. overall i'm shocked he was sent to losers so early.



sorry you got to see me play like trash again. hopefully someday in the near future i can show you guys an actual win. with that said, i'm not really sweating it.

Don't worry too much about Pojr. A lot of people in those tournaments have a lot of experience. It takes time to get good in this game. I forgot who was it, I think it was Maister, who said it took him years to actually win his first tournament and he went on to become a top 10 PGR player.

Honestly I'm starting to think I've been doing it unwittingly. I mash double jump aerials all the time to try and follow up combos, isn't that all this is? Idk why you need the shoulder button to do it, pressing the jump button twice in a couple frames seems doable.

Sometimes it works that way and sometimes it doesnt. I actually dont use them much at times because of how other Smash games work and its a habit. As long as you can read your opponent or not spam them to become predictable yourself, youll be in a good spot.

One of my favorite things to do with Puff is to do something laggy that is almost but not quite punishable like f smash then spot dodge rest when they try to grab. That's the only time I ever really use spot dodge canceling.

another character eh? I thought about picking another up for real. I've toyed with pac, mewtwo, puff and DK. might be good to have another character if someone knows the Yoshi matchup well. with that said, even if I used solo Yoshi, there is definitely room for improvement.

Yeah, I try to use it sometimes like Snakes grenade where a trade will kind of save me from something worse. In one case, the grenade went off during the end of Wonderwing and I didnt get hit so that would probably be the optimal thing instead of taking the damage.
