Welcome to the King of Fighters 2020 (NOT MERCS) Simulated Character Battle Tournament!

The game is simple. The two* listed characters are placed in an (imaginary) location with a variety of (imaginary) environments, kind of like a picture in a child's schoolbook that describes different types of geological features. Within a ten mile radius, there is an (imaginary) urban downtown, exurbs, plains, snow-clad mountains at the edge, dry plains, etc. Fighters start wherever is most appropriate for them, but feel increasingly compelled to seek out their opponent and fight. Strong-willed fighters can try to hold out in their chosen environment for longer... eventually, all will succumb and actively search for the other to battle.

To participate, just vote in bold for whichever character you believe will win. Giving reasoning is optional, but please be polite and read what others have said and carefully make your decision. I'll ping the nominators (they can opt out) to give arguments if they wish.

I know it's funny and all to go "Batman with prep time figures out everything about Link and comes in with exactly what he needs to win", but that's usually not how he operates. Generally he'll go pick a skirmish, observe what he's up against, *then* come back with what he needs to beat you. So it's a matter of whether Link beats him on the first go, or lets him be Batman and get away to win a stomp second fight

if link gets him then with a freeze arrow it's over

Batman can compete with Green Arrow, a superior archer to Link. Toon Link does have more in his arsenal than arrows, I think he has elemental magic (or maybe they're elemental arrows?), but I don't see a way for him to beat Batman, who comes in with incredible reflexes and hand-to-hand combat skills.

Not voting yet in case somebody wants to make a compelling argument for Toon Link.

When it's so one sided...

The other day we were talking about characters that could beat Discword Death and I realized I forgot to include Kirby on that list. Death might let himself get absorbed, and then you've got a little grim reaper running around. Whether that would even work or not is up in the air, but it's funny to think about.
